Worrying about cooking the turkey! Argh. Have googled about 10 recipes and methods and head is in a spin. Have never done a whole turkey before and bricking it!

Woke at 6ish, as did DS, 10, who has always been the larkiest of larks... DD and DH still snoring bastards Xmas Grin

Doing usual thing with DS of coffee and chill time, he's tucking into candy canes, I'm eyeing up more caffeine!

Good luck with the turkey OP, sure it'll go fine, and just remember everyone prefers the trimings anyway....

@Trumpton

I woke at 6 after a disturbed night and have been gently poddling around. I am now back in bed with a slice of the most amazing stollen and a hot chocolate. Listening for mil to start moving…we moved her in with us last week as she was getting lost and frightened in her bungalow. She is so much calmer and happier here. She is 98 and a tiny bird like lady. But, of course, has found the move confusing. The dgc are in their house next door to us and dd has already sent photo of the eldest (11)doing puppy eyes at her but he has to wait for his sisters ( 9 & 5) to wake up. We will go round next door for breakfast then all spend the day here. My last two Christmas days I have been poorly with cancer and chemo and I fully intend to enjoy every minute of this one.
Flowers Have a good one with your family around you.

Morning all! I know it's not early now, but with the rest of the family asleep and it being so dark it feels early. The cat woke me up for breakfast an hour ago.

@whatkatydid2013

You can rest Turkey wrapped in foil for ages and it doesn’t get cold so put it in sooner than you think you need to and then if you check and juices aren’t running clear from thickest part you can put back in for a bit longer. We’ve always followed this: www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/classic-roast-turkey/amp In my experience though you can rest it for over an hour & it will still be hot to serve. We always go for around a 6-8kg one. You’ll be fine
This link gives a different time to the good food calculator. Arghhh. How long would you cook a 14lb turkey for?
LadyCatStark · 25/12/2021 07:39

DS woke me up at 6 going to the toilet and is now back asleep. No sign of DS(12) who is not an early riser or our puppy but someone has put their dog outside and it’s yapping constantly 🤬.

AuditAngel · 25/12/2021 07:41

After a lovely meal out with extended family last night, the kids (11, 14, 17) wouldn’t go to bed. So I did.

Told DS (17) which person had which stocking paper and went to bed.

Got up at 6 as I couldn’t bear for them to get up and their presents not be waiting for them

DS has done a good job (I think) on the stockings.

I had to let the dogs get up, or they would have woken everyone. Am now sat on the sofa with one of the dogs while everyone else sleeps

Mumdiva99 · 25/12/2021 09:01

@trumpton enjoy the day. Sounds like you deserve a good one.

What is #duvetknowitschristmas?

And are your mad cats awake? Daughter has woken mine. I may have to feed one if they don't go back to sleep.[/quote]
#duvetknowitschristmas (on Twitter) started a few years ago. People going home for Christmas (or having people visit) post photos of their Christmas sleeping arrangements. There's one poor couple who are sleeping on their bathroom floor for 10 days. It kept me amused for 20 minutes anyway.

The cats made a racket at about 5am and then went back to sleep (they eat kibble or outside). One is now curled up under the duvet.

Teen has surfaced and is probably demolishing the contents of her cracker.

I am sorry to hear about Christmas break ups. It's upsetting at any time of year, but especially when you are trying to be a cheerful host/guest.

Commiserations to the Covid cohort- hope it is mild and/or you don't share it too widely.

DH has been sat in bed looking up recipes for rib of beef (I let him choose what to eat). He's a competent cook, but I had expected a bit more forward planning.

Mumdiva99 · 25/12/2021 20:35

Aah. I can't use twitter.....but did giggle at the idea if inviting guests and sleeping in the bathroom!!
