Not to have booked a hotel in advance?

I know this is a forum mainly for mums but I hope you can deal with a query from a dad?

DW and I have been married for a few years, no children. Nine months ago we found out DW was pregnant. I’ll be honest, I was suspicious because our sex life hadn’t been great and the timings didn’t really work. However, I’ve accepted that the baby is mine, maybe because I don’t want what I suspected to be true.

DW is nearly full term but we’ve unexpectedly had to return to my home town to deal with some paperwork. We arrived yesterday. It wasn’t a great trip, our transport was really slow. Then, when we arrived, we discovered all the hotels in the area are booked up. DW, of course, blames me for not booking something in advance.

Thankfully, we’ve found an B&B where the owner has an outbuilding with accommodation round the back that he says we can use. It’s basic but will do the job. However, DW is still really angry with me about having no booking; she thinks the accommodation we have is inadequate and if the baby was to come along we wouldn’t even have a crib. I think it’s not unreasonable to expect a hotel to have vacancies at this time of year.

Can someone explain the comments pls😂

APJ1 · 25/12/2021 10:08

You're liable to have a load of shepherds turning up as well. It's going to be a busy night.

No worry, OP is probably one of those posters who refuses to answer the door to strangers!

Now I'm laughing to myself at the thought of a MN nativity. Mary and Joseph 'shaking and crying' when they're told there's no room at the inn.

soapboxqueen · 25/12/2021 10:09

YABU but I think you know that.

However, I'd get some tea and biscuits in (maybe a bit cake too) you'll have lots of visitors coming.

Also maybe a shovel for all the sheep/horse/camel/donkey poo that will accumulate. It can't be good for the baby to be around all that in a confined space.

Actually, tell your visitors you're social distancing so maybe just wave from the doorway 🤷🏻

ScrambledEggForBrains · 25/12/2021 10:18

Jesus I’m slow! I got all the way to the word outbuilding before it clicked 🤣🤣👶🤴🐪🤴🐪🤴🐪🐴🐑🐂🌟

itsgettingwierd · 25/12/2021 10:29

@Meraas

God I only got this in the end of the 4th paragraph 🤣 I was getting properly annoyed at Joe.

Is there hope for me? Or have I spent too much time on AIBU?

You're not the only one.

I was way over halfway down until it clicked and then I read the rest laughing 😂

YABVU
Make sure you do a DNA test for paternity; you don't want to be paying for Godknows who's child it is😂

Jossbow · 25/12/2021 10:30

Better hope 3 wise women turn up with some nappies,a ready to eat casserole and and a phone charger, to tell of your good news

AngelonTopoftheTree · 25/12/2021 10:33

You're a carpenter Joe, surely you can knock up a crib in no time?

Laughed out loud in the middle of premier inn restaurant at that.
WasgijGods · 25/12/2021 10:54

I hope you've taken a paternity test!

BiddyPop · 25/12/2021 10:54

Well Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the wee donkey, be careful of the corrupt secret police of the King looking to find you...

violetbunny · 25/12/2021 11:00

I'm holding out for the moment when Mary snapped and farted Grin

DeepaBeesKit · 25/12/2021 11:46

Quietly hoping DW comes in with a response here so we can tell her to put her Baby's needs first, OP sounds like a feckless waste of space.

OP clearly isn't baby daddy. Dw'd do better to turn back to baby daddy, I'm sure he'd provide lifelong love & support

NotReallytheVicar · 25/12/2021 11:53

Well you should be ashamed of yourself Joseph. You should have realised that all the hotels and Air B&Bs would be booked solid for Christmas, and if you had any consideration for your poor wife you would have known that a donkey is quite unsuitable at 9 months and called a Uber instead. You’re lucky that with the way you have treated her she didn’t just stay with her cousin Elizabeth.

Maverickess · 25/12/2021 12:19

Wish your DW was on here so she could have my first LTB.
You really haven't thought any of this through have you OP?! Even down to not getting your arse organised to buy something for the baby to sleep in, where is the donkey supposed to eat from if the baby is in the manger, the floor?!
Not a good sign for your future as a husband or father this is it!

MadameFantabulosa · 25/12/2021 12:21

You can get your revenge when the small child turns up with his drum. Just what every new mother needs, a drum solo, when she’s knackered and trying to get the baby to sleep.

viques · 25/12/2021 12:23

Please make sure any visitors social distance, you can’t be too careful with a new born.

viques · 25/12/2021 12:28

Also, if this is your home town - as you claim - why aren’t any relatives letting you stay? Is there a back story about why you are NC with your family? Did they not approve of your marriage or something?

Jellycatspyjamas · 25/12/2021 14:02

Assuming the paternity test shows what you think it will, have her start a claim for maintenance through the CSA, the father really should be providing for his child.

NorthSouthcatlady · 25/12/2021 14:07

LTB
