1.30am is an unreasonable waking hour

We're used to it as the children have SEN but 1.30am is an unreasonable getting up for the day time, right? 😭

He won't go back to sleep either. I'm looking for a bit of moral support or commiserations or something.

I’m up too. Parents are staying and had a chat at 1.45am right below our bedroom. I’ve been awake for nearly two hours and absolutely no sign of being able to go back to sleep. DS will be up in an hour or so wanting to open presents.

It is, but I have a child with SEN who doesn't sleep, so I go to bed at 7pm, dad stays up with her and puts her to bed at 11pm and goes to bed, then I get up when she wakes up at around 2am by which time I've had 6 or so hours sleep. So now it's her daytime .And dad gets enough sleep to be able to go to work in the morning.

We just run shifts. It's shit. But it's the only way through it.

Kids never sleep on Christmas Eve, regardless of whether or not they have ASD.

CountOurDollarsOnTheTrain · 25/12/2021 04:22

Really @Snoozer11? This is my first experience of a pretty much totally sleep less Xmas eve! (I’ve had just over 2 hours). Is this my future now? Sad

One of mine did, and one of mine didn't. It's a lottery!!

Uninspiredusername · 25/12/2021 04:45

I’m awake. Fell asleep midnight and woke 4am needing a wee. DS5 finally fell asleep 10pm but I could hear him shuffling in bed at when I went to the loo so I think it’s only a matter of time… neither of us is great on little sleep!

twosticksandanapple · 25/12/2021 04:48

3 hours sleep here. 10 year old with ASD finally fell asleep at 1am. 2 year old with molar teeth issues woke at 4am. Exhausted and I have to cater for and entertain everyone today.

Oh my, you poor thing, I've been there and done that and it takes superhuman strength. Everyone else is having a nice christmas and you are dead on your feet. Nothing I can say to help at all. We struggle through. Sending you genuine empathy and if you can, take some time to go off and nap during the day. Leave others to see to the kids. If you can. Don't feel bad about doing it. Tell them you are exhausted.

It's advice I'd give to myself, in retrospect.

sparklytriceratops · 25/12/2021 05:12

I have an 8 month old and a two head old- I managed to wake myself up at 4am and can't nod back off- have given up now as one of them will wake up soon anyway.

We'll feel better when up and showered!

Rosiiiiie · 25/12/2021 05:13

And I thought our 4.30am start was early…. I’ve put him back to bed with Netflix so hopefully he gets another snooze in 🤞🏻

Wfhquery · 25/12/2021 05:13

Asd child woke at 4 here, 11 and first year hes been excited and done an early waking so a shock!!! We’ve let him have presents and he’s got to a minecraft annual so not excited looking at that

ImInACage · 25/12/2021 05:45

I feel your pain, DS has been awake since he fell out of bed at two. I've snatched ten minutes here and there.

Christmasisallaround · 25/12/2021 05:58

Youngest has been awake in my bed since 1.15. I managed to get another 40 minute sleep, now both DC awake and chatting until 6.15 before we get up. I am absolutely shattered.

venusmay · 25/12/2021 06:08

Mine didn't sleep until 10.30 then up at 1am for about two hours. Absolutely knackered. Now both are asleep but I've been woken by elderly guest who started walking up and down to the toilet at 5am!!! Dcs ironically now fast asleep.

52andblue · 25/12/2021 06:11

2 with ASD here. Awake till 2am. My alarm just woke me (idiot!). Still, they're asleep atm (worst year was a 2.30am start). Tired. Was given a huge Turkey yday & no idea how to cook it (yikes)

DumplingsAndStew · 25/12/2021 06:16

YANBU.

16yo had me awake at 2, then both 13 and 16 yos had me up at 3, then I gave up at 4.

It's a long day! We've had worse though, like years they've gotten up at midnight insisting it's Christmas now!

Someone tell me when the promised years of teenagers sleeping late kicks in?

GrumpyPanda · 25/12/2021 06:26

@Obsidiansphere

Hey! God Jul! Have a Nordic Christmas where presents are opened at midnight! Rejoice…there is no unacceptable time in traditional Nordic spirit!
Good heavens. Spent several years in Sweden but never realized as never actually there for the holidays. Sounds like y'all including PP might be best off switching, not to a Nordic but a German Christmas, with presents opened around 6pm Christmas eve. Leaves the entire evening to play with presents and gets them to bed at a lateish but still workable hour, then everybody just sleeps in for Christmas Day.
FanciedChange · 25/12/2021 07:26

Oh my goodness, so many of you! I can't just put on a tablet unfortunately as he'd jump on my head, or wander off and cause mayhem. I abandoned my phone and started cleaning in the middle of the night Grin. He goes to sleep OK, but we have tried pushing his bedtime back and it's awful because he just sleeps fewer hours (like some posters on here where their kid goes to bed at midnight and gets up 2 hours later).

DH took over and I did get back to sleep in the end. Lucky we're a good team.

First time I’ve experienced that level of sleeplessness at Christmas. Usually they sleep pretty well. Oldest probably going to be diagnosed with ADHD. Hope this isn’t how it will be from now on!
Merry Christmas everyone 🍹

FanciedChange · 25/12/2021 09:08

Sorry @Sunnyjac it probably will be it now! Welcome to the club - happy Xmas, grab a coffee Grin

Oh I remember those days
Mine are teenagers now and it’s me texting them to get up!

We always had a rule that you can’t come downstairs before 7am otherwise santa takes the presents away ( mean)
