Try as I might I still can't understand whether it's a normal lateral flow test to be taken in the country you're departing from (in this case Spain) rather than the PCR test. If it is a lateral flow test how do you show proof etc. I know it's a PCR after arriving in UK, just the one in Spain I'm confused about. itms. Be grateful for any help.

@logsonlogsoff

‘ LFTs in pharmacies are just normal home tests and you can’t use those for travel either, even if you paid money for them.’

That’s not true - you can use them as long as they fit the criteria
‘ The test must meet performance standards of ≥97% specificity, ≥80% sensitivity at viral loads above 100,000 copies/ml.‘

But in Spain they won’t issue a certificate that states that. Pharmacies sell the kind of LFT tests you get in a box of 7 in the UK, for free. Those tests can’t be used for travel, because they won’t give you a certificate or anything like that.

Did this today. We took Randox tests with us. Did the test, uploaded it to an app, got an emailed certificate back. We have the PCRs waiting in the car at the UK airport to do when we land tomorrow.

How much did the whole lot cost if you don't mind me asking?

Mum's was about £60 for both. You need to use one of these companies www.gov.uk/find-travel-test-provider

You don’t need a certain for that test - you need proof of a neg result which can be a photo or a video of you taking the test.
Innnow this cos we’re somewhere that’s proving impossible to get a LF at a clinic so have to self test and record it.
