AIBU about rocking chairs

Where does one with a large bum purchase a nursery rocking chair? I need one ASAP but I'm scared to order one in case my size 18 bum doesn't fit. Sat in a lovely mamas and papas one which I loved but they are all on a 16 week lead time. AIBU to want mothercare back and other baby shops where I could try before I buy?!

Off topic, but what is the purpose of a nursery rocking chair? As opposed to just rocking the baby while sat on a regular seat/bed/floor/ whatever

Off topic, but what is the purpose of a nursery rocking chair? As opposed to just rocking the baby while sat on a regular seat/bed/floor/ whatever

You can get the stools too so once the rocking motion starts you don't have to put any effort in - they just keep rocking

I can't imagine a size 18 bum is that enormous! I have a huge bum and it fits fine in my rocking chair 😁 Still rocking my daughter to sleep at age 4... 😬

For us it's because aside from the nursery I dont have a spare room to take the baby to in the night for feeds etc and I don't want to disturb my husband (til it's his turn on night feeds!) Or my daughter next door so the nursery down the hall is ideal but no room for a bed etc so ideally a nice rocking chair would be comfy for us both during those times.

I have a size 18 bum and had a glider rocking chair with both of my babies. It was absolutely fine - I mean, if you can get to JL it's probably worth it but they're much of a muchness.

My same size bum is perfectly comfy in the ikea one Wink with plenty of room to spare.

I usually sit cross legged in it as well, but admittedly I'm short so there's not much 'leg' to me!

I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine in any rocking chair OP but we've had the IKEA Poang chair for 6 years still going strong. It's comfy and roomy.

Ah, ok. Mines just slept in a moses basket/ crib / cot in my room so I've never needed one.
I know the same as me for baby number 1 but with number 2 I need somewhere to escape to so we don't wake the whole house haha

I keep looking at them but wasn't sure how comfy it would be. Thank you for the recommendation it might be the easiest option.

But I added a nice soft cushion to sit on as it was a little bit hard and I was sitting in the thing all day when DD was little.

Poang is comfy but can be tricky immediately postpartum to get into. Especially if you have sore back or hips after birth. I found the glider more comfortable and got mine from JL the Kub Haywood chair. My bum fit in it when I was size 20!

Poang is very comfy, we have one in the nursery, but I’ve never sat on it the nursery!! I just used to go to the sitting room in the early days so I could watch a film whilst feeding. Do people really sit on a nursing chair all night whilst feeding? I think I would have fallen asleep.

I used to use a poang for night feeds, it was restful for sitting in the nursery for my DSs' long feeds.

In my second pregnancy when SPD returned, I started using a Poang in the lounge as it was more supportive and less painful for my SPD. I never did return to that sofa and a couple of years later we replaced the suite. The arms helped with getting up and down.

I have an Ickle Bubba Dursley and my size 22 arse fits just fine.
