Feels refreshing to read this

Japan-A more balanced approach?

Seems to be the view of one Japanese citizen on a site called daily sceptic. Also sounds like the UK approach - vaccination is a choice.

@bizboz So far…and a view not shared by many on here

Sounds good to me.

It doesn’t need to be said, given how Japanese society functions.

EileenGC · 23/12/2021 20:54

I live in Germany and I had to read through 4 pages of small print and sign two different consent forms, for each one of my three vaccines. Japan is not the only country who provides you with information on the vaccine you’re about to have, and requires your consent to jab you. Even the UK does this, what a shocker!

I don’t see how that source is proof of the Japanese government’s approach to Covid. It’s not a reputable source. Also, isn’t that the stance of literally every single country? We don’t force anyone in my workplace to get vaccinated, nor do we discriminate against the unvaccinated.

BewareTheLibrarians · 23/12/2021 21:03

As well as all the points above, Japan also has a very high rate of vaccine uptake. 78% of the population is fully vaccinated, so the need for a vaccine mandate likely isn’t there. From memory, the 5-11 year age group will be vaccinated from early next year, so that 78% shows a good take up in the older age groups.

Shamoo · 23/12/2021 21:24

Japanese culture is very, very different to the U.K., the approach to things like compliance, instructions, discussions etc. So it’s really not a comparable situation.

RealMermaid · 23/12/2021 21:28

Additionally the Japanese central government doesn't have the same level of authority that our central government does and there is far more power at more local levels so even if the central government wanted to enact a vaccine mandate I doubt they would legally have the power to do so.

TroubleAndStrife1 · 23/12/2021 21:33

They also have completely closed borders now

MadeOfStarStuff · 23/12/2021 21:33

Nobody is being vaccinated without consent in the UK either.

But it’s right that there are measures in place to protect the most vulnerable, including requiring those working in close contact with them to be vaccinated.

People in the UK, as elsewhere, are free to make stupid and selfish decisions. But quite rightly, there are consequences to those decisions when they affect other people.

Hont1986 · 23/12/2021 21:51

It's difficult to take an approach from one country and apply it to another. Japan can afford to be a little more lax about their vaccinations because they have very low obesity rate and they have almost completely shut their borders. The UK is not the same and the same approach wouldn't work. I agree that no-one should be forced to take a vaccine and so far there is no such law in the UK.
