How much do you tip your cleaner at Xmas?

I pay her £26 a week and have tipped her a tenner,

Now totally over thinking that I have been a bit tight.

Anyone? 😭🙈🙈🙈🤣🤣🤣

Buzzer3555 · 23/12/2021 11:32

I think that sounds fair

Findahouse21 · 23/12/2021 11:32

£100. She is worth her weight in gold.

Lochnessgiraffe · 23/12/2021 11:33

We pay 45 to an agency so we gave her 50 in cash

Besswess88 · 23/12/2021 11:34

She does a job I pay her to do 🤣😳

IglesiasPiggl · 23/12/2021 11:36

I give an extra week's pay in cash and a box of chocolates.

Besswess88 · 23/12/2021 11:37

Oh god feeling really tight now 🙈

Although I do pay her cash …

Depends how good a job they do (and how good a job you want them to do in future). Generally if you're satisfied with them you should give them double their wages that week. That's a starting point, you can give more if necessary. TBH a tenner seems a bit tight.

ShirleyPhallus · 23/12/2021 11:40

We give ours 4 weeks (£100) plus some chocolates and wine. We both get decent bonuses and so pay it forwards a bit for stuff like this.

She does a good job - that’s what a bonus is IMO.

Notimeforaname · 23/12/2021 11:41

Yeah, a tenner is a bit stingy as a 'Christmas bonus'

murasaki · 23/12/2021 11:44

Mines on £40 per week so I did £100 and some chocs. I like her and want to keep her!

Besswess88 · 23/12/2021 11:46

There is no way I could give her £100. She is a luxury I don’t know if I can continue to afford tbh, as I am recently single.

I don’t get a Christmas tip or bonus as work for the LA 🤣 we even have to pay for our own Xmas do.

dandydear · 23/12/2021 11:48

Ours are a bit random as cleaners, but very sweet. We round up a weeks pay plus a box of chocolates.

Goldbar · 23/12/2021 12:05

I gave mine an extra fortnight's wages (she comes fortnightly) and some chocolates.

Hobbesmanc · 23/12/2021 12:33

We gave her a weeks extra pay (£40) plus a big box of nice biscuits for her family. She's also going to get paid from the Monday bank holiday although she's not coming in

She gave us some Polish vodka and some gorgeous little homemade cookies- and a table centerpiece she made from the pine trees in our garden.

Yes she is a total treasure. Yes we know how lucky we are

Westfacing · 23/12/2021 12:35

Extra week's wage and a box of chocolates/biscuits.

Bofthebang · 23/12/2021 12:42

We give our cleaner an extra weeks wages, Prosecco and posh chocs.

She’s wonderful and frankly I’d give her double that to keep her wanting to come here!

Whammyyammy · 23/12/2021 12:50

We pay our cleaner the same amount as her weekly fee , £48. Shes self employed, and Christmas is the only week she has off, so if everyone done thar, then she has a week off on full pay.

cushioncovers · 23/12/2021 12:52

I probably would have given her £20 but that's it.

Sunsetsupernova · 23/12/2021 12:54

I imagine she will be grateful for extra cash and I’m sure you’re not her only client OP.
DP is self employed (not a cleaner) and usually gets gifted lots of lovely things like hampers, champagne, candles etc. This year every single client has given a bottle of red wine. We don’t drink red wine. He’d have much preferred £10 in cash

CallmeHendricksGingleBells · 23/12/2021 12:58

I gave 20 to the binmen. So I think for a valued cleaner it should be more.

LiterallyKnowsBest · 23/12/2021 13:00

Why is this a ‘first world problem?

You cannot genuinely believe that people outside the ‘first world’ don’t have homes and don’t employ domestic staff and don’t worry about how to tip their staff on high days and holidays?

How odd.

And yes, your tip is low. But I’m sure your cleaner cares more about regular employment than one-off tips.

MyComputerGetsSadWithoutMe · 23/12/2021 13:08

How odd that people think it's tight, it's not tight if that's what you can afford, I know some people assume that the person using the cleaner always has more money but it's not always the case, my auntie is a cleaner and earns well, she goes to some people's homes where she is their 'luxury' and they'll go without many other things for having a cleaner.

PinkSyCo · 23/12/2021 13:19

If you can afford a cleaner I think £10 is really tight and a bit of a kick in the teeth tbh.

avocadotofu · 23/12/2021 13:25

We have a new cleaner through an agency and we're giving her wine and chocolate. In the past we've given a couple of weeks wages.
