Help me to defrost my freezer please!!

Can anyone tell me how to defrost a freezer without turning it off? I have quite a bit of ice build up in the top compartment but the rest is not too bad.

Do you have anything that makes steam? We use the steam mop with the attachment off so just the nozzle that shoots steam. Works a treat.

A clothes steamer or wallpaper steamer would work too.

As per *@jellofish*, if you are using a knife to scrape off the ice, go very carefully as there is a risk of piercing the plastic over the pipes the coolant runs in, and then your freezer is a dead 'un. I use a wooden spoon to scrape off the ice that is loose enough, and then wait for the fan heater to melt a bit and then the ice will peel off.

I use a round ended dinner knife-I'd never use a pointy one.

I have a Polti Vaporetto steam cleaner (steam is generated at a high temperature under high pressure). It rips through the ice in no time at all. I have tried all the other methods and this one is the quickest. I always put an old folded up bath sheet in the bottom to soak up the water.
