To ask to reschedule my interview?

I have an interview tomorrow afternoon for a job that I'm really happy and excited about. It's for a professional position and is a virtual interview, to be done over Microsoft teams.

Only problem is I have come down with a terrible cold. I was hoping yesterday would be the worst of it and I'd be starting to feel better by now but I'm actually worse and feel like hammered shit. I look terrible, have a red raw nose and watery eyes from the constant blowing, and when I woke up this morning I had practically lost my voice.

I really don't want to call off the interview but I have absolutely no faith in my ability to perform well at this point. I'm coughing and sneezing every 5 minutes and can barely think I'm so sore and uncomfortable. I don't want to fuck it up and waste a good opportunity!

Wibu to email/call them to reschedule? Or should I just suck it up and do it anyway given that it's virtual and I won't run the risk of infecting anyone?

Just do it and good luck. I’d be impressed you did but I’d probably count you out for cancelling a virtual interview for the cold.

maddy68 · 23/12/2021 17:29

I would attend. Otherwise they will almost certainly give it to one that can attend

Undecidedandtorn · 23/12/2021 17:35

How did it go?

troobleflooble · 24/12/2021 09:39

I did attend! It actually went well, or I felt it did, but it's hard to tell if I have what they are looking for.

The interviewer did say that they will be contacting me with their decision today so that probably was the last day of interviews and if I'd asked to reschedule I'm certain I wouldn't have had a chance. Seems I made the right choice 😊

Well done for powering through OP and good luck!

NigellaLawdaughter · 24/12/2021 11:55

Very good, @OP!
Did you mention that you were a bit under the weather?
After the inteview, how do you feel about it yourself? Do you still think you want it?

Hope you get some good news today! 🍀

FakeFruitShoot · 24/12/2021 12:01

My mum passed her driving test on the 7th or 8th attempt precisely because she felt so unwell that she forgot to be nervous!

Best of luck OP Flowers

Hope you hear soon.

Wife2b · 24/12/2021 13:55

Good luck OP

Viviennemary · 24/12/2021 14:00

I would be reluctant to employ somebody who cancelled an interview. If somebody soldiered on and did their best it would be a plus.

Viviennemary · 24/12/2021 14:01

Saw your update. You did the right thing.

troobleflooble · 27/12/2021 16:40

I was going to update earlier as I got the email on Christmas Eve but I got too busy with family stuff!

I didn't get the job 😞

It was a good learning experience though and I don't think the cold made any difference to my performance in the end. I think I did as well as I could do! At least I don't have to worry about whether or not I would have got it or not if I cancelled the interview.
