Covid Symptoms only starting 9 days after positive PCR?

DC2 is on day 9 of isolation after a positive PCR. They tested positive 10 days after DC1 brought it home. DC2 has had no symptoms at all until this evening when they are complaining of a headache and slightly dizzy, very tired and an achy leg(?!) Calpol has helped and they've gone to bed.

My question is - is this likely to be covid symptoms this far after a positive test? If it is covid symptoms will they still be infectious after day 10?? I can't find any information on late onset symptoms after a positive PCR!

Scientists haven't managed to get replicable virus more than 9 days after positive test so it's unlikely to still be infectious I thought (although tests can still detect virus being shredded although someone isnt spreading it which is why you aren't recommended to test for several weeks after having Covid- the rate of false positives are high.

Its probably just the next winter bug heading along, there are loads around.

Tricky. I've just had covid. And the message I received was if you still have a cough and any loss of taste and smell, go about your business. If you still have other symptoms, such as temperature, carry on isolating until they disappear.

Will see how they are in the morning and may LFT them and see. I've just LFT's negative today (also no symptoms). Desperate to see a family member who has had a very rough time but obviously dont want to give them covid!!

That's what i was thinking, that its just another winter bug.

So long as no fever once isolation period from the date of the positive test it's over you're free! You don't have to test negative on lft or pcr once the isolation is over either, you can still test positive long afterwards.

Keep an eye on the leg. I ended up having a blood clot.

RiverOrla · 22/12/2021 21:25

dorothy I have that info but that only covers continuing existing symptoms. I can’t find anything if the symptoms are brand new at day 9, there hasn’t been a single symptom before today.

I had symptoms days 1-10 and then on day 10 came down with different symptoms. These went on for about 3 weeks and since then have been different every day. Some days aching, some headaches, some day sore throat etc. I am on week 8 now. I never had a temp or a cough so after day 10 I went about my business.

I was told it couldn't be a new infection as I was isolating alone and not come into contact with anyone or anything new. Yours might be different if you have people coming and going who could infect with other things.

My son tested positive without symptoms, we were told if symptoms started within the isolation period then you had to start isolation again from the onset of the symptoms. Sorry.

Son-in-Law currently testing positive (lft&pcr) no symptoms. Dd still negative. This started on Saturday.

RiverOrla · 23/12/2021 08:50

spongebunny who gave you that information please?

Achey legs were my weird covid symptom too! But mine started about 3 days after positive test.

Changeisneeded · 23/12/2021 09:35

Yes I’ve heard the same information as sponge bunny that the clock resets if you go from asymptomatic to symptomatic
