Gave a friend a lift then she had a covid test

We were meeting at another friends to exchange present. Picked up friend no.1 went to friend no.2. Friend no.1 did not want to go into friend no.2 house so we stayed on the doorstep. Got back into car and friend no.1 asked if I could drop her off at the testing centre because she had been to a party at the weekend and someone from there had txt her to say they had covid symptoms. Am I unreasonable to think she should have told me before I picked her up. And I didn't think to get tested myself my fault I know

Assuming she already knew she should have prioritised the test. Has the result come through?

Bubblty · 22/12/2021 14:18

Did she only just get the text through? If not she is no friend.

Landof · 22/12/2021 14:19

It depends when the text was sent? Did she know before you picked her up?

To be honest, I've been careful over the last week or so, not shared a car with anyone and also met people outside only

Loveisthere · 22/12/2021 14:22

Yes she said she had the txt in the morning. I picked her up at lunch time but she only said she wanted the test because she had received a txt in the morning. I have just received a txt from her and no results so far, she was told it would be between 24-48 hours.

If she had the text prior to you picking her up she should have told you as thats very selfish of her if she is risking infecting you

MadgeMak · 22/12/2021 14:38

Don't beat yourself up about not getting yourself tested, best to wait for your friends results first. If your friend has got covid and has passed it onto you and then you'd tested at the same time, the test wouldn't be able to pick up if you've contracted it in that timeframe - incubation of the virus is several days.

Lacedwithgrace · 22/12/2021 14:55

That's so selfish of her for going to a party and then potentially infecting you, knowing she could have covid. Do a couple of LFTs, if you're visiting people get a PCR just to be sure.

girlmom21 · 22/12/2021 14:58

I don't know why you'd have got yourself tested. Don't worry about that.

She's a knob.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 22/12/2021 15:00

She used you for a lift by the sounds of it.

Uninterested · 22/12/2021 15:13

That's selfish and mean of her. She should have told you so you could make your own decision.

StripeyDeckchair · 22/12/2021 15:17

Selfish madam, using you knowing that she might be covid positive.

I would take a huge step backwards from this friendship and let her know how selfish I thought she was.

DJSteves · 22/12/2021 15:17

If it puts your mind at rest OP I drove my boss on a 40 min trip two days before I tested positive and she didn't get it. Neither did my adult DS who lives with me

Bubblty · 22/12/2021 15:18

Ditch her. She could actually kill someone.

Hemingwayscatz · 22/12/2021 15:21

This is a bit OTT. She decided to get a PCR despite having no covid symptoms and only because she had been near someone who now has symptoms but actually hasn’t tested positive yet? Madness. I’d understand her doing an LFT but anything else is crazy. DH didn’t catch it despite living with DD, cuddling her and also driving her 40 mins round trip to get a PCR test. He just totally evaded it, as did two of our DC so it isn’t a given you’ll even get it if you’ve had very close contact.

Drunkpanda · 22/12/2021 15:22

I'm confused - are you supposed to test because someone you were in contact with his symptoms? Surely it's only once they are positive? Even so, a good friend would have let you know.

VaguelyInteresting · 22/12/2021 15:30

Hang on - the friend hadn't been in contact with confirmed covid - just someone with symptoms of covid (which are also the symptoms of 100 other viruses circulating right now)

She has no symptoms herself?

I think she should have told you to be extra safe, given proximity to Christmas, but given NOBODY has confirmed covid yet, I couldn't get worked up about it, personally.

This is true. Myself, dh, dd and ds all got it but other ds avoided it despite sharing a room (and bed at times) with his brother. God know how, he just totally avoided it and he was home with us during our 10 days as we couldn’t drive him to school
