He came in and was crying out alot and looked like he was heaving we raced him.to the vet and he was in alot of distress and was frothing at the mouth and died on the way.
Vet thinks heart attack but I can't help but think he was poisoned. We are so upset.

Just to clarify, these days a bittering agent is added to antifreeze, apparently it tastes foul.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 22/12/2021 22:51

Oh I’m so sorry OP! I have no answers for you I’m afraid. I hope you get some. I lost my girl suddenly on Friday night. Thanks

So sorry; my darling little cat had a seizure and died at the vets’; thought we were taking her as a precaution but vet said she had been unwell fir a while; cats mask it well, she said. I cried so much, she was my shadow.

I’m so sorry. I know it wasn’t peaceful but at-least he had his family with him so wasn’t alone. R.I.P

So sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry x. It's so sad when they die anyway, but to watch him like that. However, he would have been comforted by your presence and you haven't been left thinking he's missing... it's small comfort, but in time will help a little.

Big hugs xx

ThinWomansBrain · 23/12/2021 12:30

I am so sorry, what an awful thing to happen Sad

Accept the vet's diagnosis - dwelling on "what ifs" won't change things, and won't make it any easier for you.

Thetwomutts · 23/12/2021 12:33

I worry about this with my feral cats- they are keen mouse and rat catchers.

If their prey ingest mouse and rat poison it can cause poisoning in the cat or wild animal that eats the mouse or rat.

We rehabbed two owls with signs of poisoning this year- probably from poisoned mice. Luckily they made it

I'm so sorry for your loss.

VikingsandDragons · 23/12/2021 13:29

The heaving and frothing sounds very like how my cat passed as well, she was 12 and it was a heart attack, she'd had fluid retention for about 3 weeks before hand as well and we knew she was in heart failure. I'm very sorry for your loss, it's horrible to witness as well.

ShinyMe · 23/12/2021 13:42

It sounds like heart to me. My cat has a heart murmur and the vet told me what to look out for as a sign of a heart attack, and that sounds exactly like what he described

ShinyMe · 23/12/2021 13:43

I'm sorry though OP, what a crappy start to Christmas. Poor pussycat, hopefully it was quick.

Linguini · 23/12/2021 13:50

I'm so so sorry for your loss. How terrible.

Heart attacks are the most common cause of sudden unexpected death in cats, and include breathing difficulties.

Swallowing antifreeze is a highly unlikely suggestion, even if antifreeze were sweet which it isn't, cats don't like sweet things (unless it's in cream).

So incredibly sorry for your loss OP, it's terrible to watch any muched loved member of your family suffer and pass in such a distressing way.

Hope you and the family are looking after each other Flowers
