AIBU to use kitchen spray in the bathroom?

DH and I need some input for an argument we're having.

Is it ok to use kitchen cleaning spray to clean the bathroom (or bathroom spray for the kitchen)? I'm talking Tesco own brand, regular kitchen spray, the kind you use on work surfaces etc., spray on and then wipe off.

I maintain that all the sprays (kitchen, bathroom, general) are basically the same thing and really we only need to have 1 such bottle in the house at any time (with possibly a second one as a backup).

DH is horrified at the idea of using kitchen spray in the bathroom and insists he needs to have at least 2 bottles of each type of spray (kitchen, bathroom, general) in the house at all times. In practice, this means the cupboard contains so many bottles that he can never find anything, so assumes we've run out, so buys more... we currently have 4 kitchen sprays, 3 bathroom sprays and 2 general sprays.

So, who's right? Do you use kitchen spray in the bathroom, or vice versa? Or am I going to cause irreparable damage by just grabbing the first bottle that comes to hand and using it on everything?

Thanks for the replies! Glad I'm not destroying my house by mixing and matching! I totally agree that bathroom spray is good for soap scum, that's true, but I find that general spray works well enough. And whoever mentioned washing up liquid - Yep, that's what I often use for basically everything!

DH is an absolute marketer's dream; honestly, if they released 'kitchen worktop spray' and 'kitchen cupboard spray' he'd buy both and use them religiously!

Left to my own devices, my cleaning kit consists of washing up liquid, vinegar spray, baking soda and Pink Stuff, and some combination of those tackles most things!

I'm with you OP. I'm chief bathroom and kitchen cleaner (I can't help if I quite enjoy doing it!!) and use the same multi purpose stuff in both rooms.

I used the hob spray that came with the cooker the other day in the bathroom, as we ran out of the normal stuff. Looking at the "ingredients", it was the same as the multi purpose cleaner.

Use a general antibacterial one - job sorted.

In the good old days, I seemed to recall we only used Jif.

I couldn’t use flash bathroom in the kitchen. The smell is far too bathroomy and perfumed. Kitchen spray in the bathroom, fine

No you're not being unreasonable. If the spray in the bathroom finishes I don't go out and buy a new one I just use the ones in the kitchen or a white cream cleaner (any brand). What washing up liquid do you use btw?

Batshitkerazy · 22/12/2021 07:42

Yes they’re both the same sprays, although I must admit it would annoy me having to use kitchen spray in the bathroom Grin

I think bathroom spray works better in bathrooms, as I've tried multipurpose ones and while they get the bathroom clean, sort of, I have to scrub harder at the bath scum. Whereas a decent bathroom cleaner breaks it down better.

But you want to keep bottles down, I'd buy a good quality multipurpose one and something rough textured cloths for the bathroom to help the scrubbing action.

Tbh, washing up liquid does the bathroom worktops well. A tiny drop on the cloth then wet it. Too much and you're rinsing off suds for ages! Much cheaper too.

My partner takes all these things very literally too 😂 If there’s a picture of a kitchen on it he couldn’t possibly use it in a bathroom. The other thing he does this with is the oven temperature it says on packets of food. He cooks everything on about 15 degrees then goes to check the chips after 3 days and they’re still frozen just about 😂 winds me up sooo much haha!

Usually Tesco own brand, or Fairy. But anything that cleans dishes well seems to work for general cleaning. I use it on floors as well.

I use the empty bottles and concoct my own with a cunning array of ingredients.....

Cheap Aldi stuff. It works really well.

You can get all purpose spray and avoid the agonising.

MasterBeth · 24/12/2021 12:28

@HeddaGarbled

Here’s a plan: keep the bathroom spray in the bathroom cupboard and the kitchen spray in a kitchen cupboard.
There is nothing to add to this genius strategy.

Happy memories of using Cif (when it was Jif) Cream Cleaner on everything...... it wasn't even anti-bac Shock.
