Contacted on NHS app after being in contact with some who tested positive at an open air PCR test site

Hi , I have had an NHS app alert after being in contact with a positive Covid person. On the day in question I drove to a test site. Waited in line in the open air, took my test. Have literally just finished doing 7 days of LFTs and now need to do 7 more. Has anyone else experienced this ?

Think common sense should override here, presume you are negative.

PlayerOneReady · 21/12/2021 19:58

Get rid of ridiculous app.
Problem solved.

Funnylittlefloozie · 21/12/2021 20:01

My exH also got "pinged" after attending a test centre. Common sense would suggest that if you do insist on using the stupid app, that you turn it off before attending any medical-type place ESPECIALLY test centres and vaccine centres.

  1. Why do you still have the app??
  2. Its not legally enforceable so ignore
Caterina99 · 21/12/2021 20:29

I mean it’s a test centre. I’d assume that half the people there are positive. Presumably you social distanced and wore masks and were outside so I’d just ignore it.

saraclara · 21/12/2021 20:54

People still have the proximity app? Why?

Bluetooth's proximity accuracy is only about 45%, if o remember correctly. No way am I limiting my life based on the toss of a coin as to whether I was actually anywhere near the person.
And of course I could have been outside at the time, which makes it even more likely that I'm not at risk.

Hbh17 · 21/12/2021 20:56

Why is anybody still using the app? It was ditched months ago!

Squirrelblanket · 21/12/2021 21:13

Didn't realise that app was still going!

ilovesooty · 21/12/2021 21:19

If my friend hadn't still had the app she wouldn't have been pinged, had an lft result that showed a very faint second line, then registered a positive PCR. She'd have been spreading it around none the wiser, including possibly to me (due to spend Christmas Eve and Boxing day at her house).

Museumland · 23/12/2021 07:30

Thanks for the replies....to be honest I have deleted the app now. It doesn't take into account masks, the open air, and at the test centre the social distancing was way more than 2 metres.....I always take lateral flow before meeting anyone these days anyway.

If my friend hadn't had the app she would have been totally unaware that she was covid positive.

newname12345 · 23/12/2021 07:36

@ilovesooty Your friend should be taking regular lft tests regardless of what the app says. Like others I turned it off ages ago.

Joystir59 · 23/12/2021 07:38

Delete the app.

She was. They were negative.

Sh05 · 23/12/2021 08:03

It's not about having the app though it's about using common sense. D's had the app in the very beginning and got pinged at college, his whole class did, turned out a student in the neighboring classroom had tested positive! They had a solid wall between positive child and D's, after that the school advised them to turn the app off.

Cheerbear24 · 23/12/2021 08:37

Ignore it.
I’m surprised anyone actually ever downloaded the app in the first place. It’s very obviously flawed logic.
