Grabby?

Am I being grabby. I started a new job supporting young adults with additional needs at the start of November. The original company was taken over by a new company 1st December. Everybody in my new job recieved a 75pounds voucher from the new company... i was not included due to being new and apparently it was for the staff who worked through covid and wasn't fir new staff. To make it worse, I was told by staff members who were called down to get their voucher that the manager said there was not one for me. Aibu?

They could have given you £20 as you were new. I'm not surprised you didn't get anything but as others have said they shouldn't have told other staff there was nothing for you.
I wonder if the staff member that told you about this asked them specifically about you though, and was going to complain that it was unfair if you got a voucher. I don't know why your name would have come up otherwise. It was mean of them to tell you as well - are you sure they weren't gloating about it?

KatherineJaneway · 21/12/2021 11:27

Yes you are being a bit grabby. You did not work through Covid which is the basis for the bonus.

arethereanyleftatall · 21/12/2021 11:31

Yabu. Incredibly so. Why on Earth would you even think you should get this?
The clue is in 'the voucher is to thank those who've worked throughout covid.' Did you? No.

As to the poster who suggested bullying - wtf?

As to the poster who suggested they could have stretched to it - how do you know?

FlippityFlippityFlop · 21/12/2021 11:34

I don't think you are being grabby - I think it's mean of your work.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 21/12/2021 11:34

It would create more bad feeling for the longer term staff if new staff got the extra having been there a few weeks. I’m confused why anyone would expect a bonus after working a max of 8 weeks.

Flowers500 · 21/12/2021 11:35

Previous places I’ve been at have pro rata-ed it, you you would have got say a 10 quid voucher

5keletor · 21/12/2021 11:35

YABU, you've said it's for staff that worked through covid, you know that, and you didn't, so obviously you aren't entitled to one..?!

Also, we don't know the context in which the manager supposedly said there was nothing for OP, or if they did say that at all. I imagine it was more:

Random employee picking up voucher - "Should I send OP to pick hers up now?"

Manager - "No, we don't have one for OP as it's a reward for working through covid and she's just started. Could you send John instead?"

These things do usually have to be ordered and budgeted for in advance too, I would bet it was all arranged and paid for before you started, OP.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 21/12/2021 11:36

You shouldn’t have got it, as you’ve just started

However, they should have said to other employees “oh , she isn’t getting one”

SleepingStandingUp · 21/12/2021 12:56

So if they'd l got a 3k performance bonus for the last Yr, should she be entitled to that too? Or is it because it "only £75?"

TractorAndHeadphones · 21/12/2021 13:06

bit confused.
Why would the new company want to reward staff who worked though covid?
Did they perhaps take a cut of the staff list pre-takeover.
Or did they say ‘staff who have been here X months’?
If it’s from the new company everyone working there should have been given something

TractorAndHeadphones · 21/12/2021 13:07

Also yes criteria should have been communicated

DockOTheBay · 21/12/2021 13:18

Maybe they should give you £12.50, since you worked there 2 months out of 12

MrsLarry · 21/12/2021 13:37

Yes YABU. You've been there 5 minutes and the rest of the staff have worked all year.

MrsLarry · 21/12/2021 13:39

Also, I don't believe other employees were told there wasn't one for you in the way you've assumed.

EBearhug · 21/12/2021 13:40

Everywhere I’ve ever worked you needed 12 months to get a Christmas bonus

This.

Viviennemary · 21/12/2021 13:40

It was a thank you to staff who worked at the Company through covid. If you didn't why would you get the voucher.

LadyWithLapdog · 21/12/2021 19:15

The company is petty. See also not inviting former employees to the Xmas do when they left earlier in the year, even if after years and years of service.

KarmaStar · 21/12/2021 19:27

Yes you are being grabby and yabu.
