To not feel Christmassy?

I’m just not feeling it despite:

  • eating dozens of mince pies, including the MILs
  • attending a masked Carol concert with my three DC’s, one of whom shouted “not wuv this, I wuv wheels on bus ‘stead mummy - waaaaaaa”
  • significantly contributing to amazons net profit for this quarter
  • having a house interior that resembles a garden centre Xmas display
  • wrapping presents while making “play me Christmas tunes, Alexa!” demands

In honesty I’m feeling bloody exhausted and running low on reindeer dust too.

Maybe I need to make eggnog? Although the thought of drinking raw eggs gives me the boke. Dress up the cats?

Phew, not just me!
I am single, both DSs have moved out, have no other relatives and was hoping to avoid it altogether for the first time in 25+ years. But no, DS2 announced that he wants Xmas dinner with me instead of with his GFs family. FFS

Do you know what makes me feel unchristmassy, when Christmas stuff starts to appear in the shops and everyone moans that it's too early, it puts me off getting that Christmas feeling and then it's hard to produce it even a few days before Christmas.

BiscuitLover3678 · 21/12/2021 11:34

I think it can be hard atm with covid. Again.🙄 I feel like putting the radio Christmas music on helps.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 21/12/2021 12:02

No, not at all. I’m also getting stressed about a lot of things - trying to work and kids getting lots of non covid illnesses - and being snappy and grumpy.

Tal45 · 21/12/2021 12:05

Stop trying so hard to make it perfect for everyone else! You've done loads, got the place looking great, relax a bit now and give yourself some time to enjoy it.
PS who wouldn't want wheels on the bus??

zingally · 21/12/2021 12:55

I'm not either really...

Last Saturday I started with a cough, which 10 days later is still lingering pretty bad, so I'm not sleeping very well. I'm just sooooo tired.

And I had a couple of nice things planned for the new year, and now they're all up in the air. Boooo.

Fairylights25 · 23/12/2021 05:34

Going to the pub is very festive, so I am going tonight. I am not feeling festive as I am too busy rushing around, slow down, listen to the music, hug your children, let it sink into the heart. The night sky and carols etc.

It's all very flat for us. Not done any Xmas day outs /actives because I didn't want to risk catching covid before Xmas. The kids finished school a whole week before Xmas so this week is just absolutely dragging, weather awful, all bored.
For me tho, I feel flat because we are together all the time anyway. Husband works from home now. So we are all sick of the sight of each other! It doesn't feel special because there was nothing to look forward to.
I absolutely love watching my kids open their gifts on Xmas morning, but after that it's just cooking, cleaning and hosting for me which I find very tiring. My parents are coming too, my mum acts like a nervous wreck all the time on the brink of tears and my dad likes to be the centre of attention all the time and hold an audience whilst talking about politics or some other serious issue Hmm

I was the same but the Xmas spirit has well and truly arrived here.

Finished the Christmas running around yesterday and spent today painting pictures for santa, making paper chains and the kids putting on Christmas shows!

They've really made me laugh today and I'm so grateful to have them.

TheShadoutCrepes · 23/12/2021 16:05

I’m enjoying looking at my lovely Christmas tree but apart from that nothing. Feel completely flat, knackered but can’t sleep, and wish we could fast forward to April.
Keep opening the fridge and shutting it again as all the rich food is making me feel ill. Have absolutely zero desire to drink anything other that tea.
Have never felt so nothing about Christmas before but have to drum up some sort of rictus grin of joy come tomorrow evening.

Why are you in charge of all the cooking and cleaning? And sounds like your parents have a lot of issues!

Never felt less christmassy my whole life, dd and dh both have covid (mild but still ill) so we've had to cancel lots of plans and won't be able to see ds for Christmas (first time ever), I have the tree up, and luckily we have most of the food in and lots of alcohol so could be worse. Just feel a bit me about it all this year though and I usually love it

Karmagoat · 23/12/2021 16:31

'Meh' not me lol

Livingthroughcrazy · 23/12/2021 23:29
