AIBU to wonder if you still do these things with covid and other viruses and bacteria about or if you’re more cautious these days.

Some examples:
-filling your car with petrol without wearing gloves to touch the handle of the pump.
-using a basket or trolley without wearing gloves/sanitizing first
-touching door handles and taps in public e.g. when using the toilet etc

Surely if someone is touching those things without precautions such as sanitization or gloves, their risk of catching something is higher than someone who is taking those extra precautions.

How long could germs live On those sorts If surfaces if they were not sanitized?

YABU: I don’t take any extra precautions
YANBU: I DO take extra precautions, you’d be mad not to

Same as a lot of PPs, I wash my hands far more often during the day now.

I love that trolley handle sanitising spray is so widely available now, I found touching the same handle as loads of other people without washing hands/cleaning it in between grotty before covid though.
I've always sanitised my hands after using things like ATMs/touchscreens/handles, etc. I already had a good supply of sanitiser before the shortage at the start of the pandemic because I always have enough to last a while. Blush

MajorCarolDanvers · 21/12/2021 18:39

I've never done any of those things.

It's been more than a year since it was determined that the chance of catching COVID from surfaces is incredibly low.

Cheshirewife · 22/12/2021 12:17

I’m less bothered by covid on surfaces and more by how gross everyone is generally - particularly when lots of people are coughing and then handling items in (eg) shops. If I could get away with wearing latex gloves out and about, I probably would!

gogohm · 22/12/2021 12:41

I never have taken those precautions. I wash my hands when I remember. Still never had a positive covid test despite testing twice a week!

millymolls · 22/12/2021 12:46

Don’t ever do any of those things and don’t intend to

bluesky45 · 22/12/2021 14:28

I don't worry about any of those things at all. You will drive yourself crazy with worry if you can't touch anything without stressing about it

OneTC · 22/12/2021 14:30

The only thing I've stopped doing is eating food off the floor in public places

Which is probably a good thing

JustUseTheDoorSanta · 22/12/2021 14:33

We've always washed or sanitised hands after touching that stuff; you don't need gloves as it doesn't seep into the skin. What's changed for us is the focus on masks and ventilation, as well as avoiding crowded places even more than usual. We also do more activities around people when covid cases are low than when they are high.

Just hand san before and after these things. Some guy was in the Tesco collect queue, 2 empty bags ahead of him, gloves, fresh brand new bag from a roll for each item, wiping everything and checking it before bagging……… very irritating. Took ages to get in his car once finished too. I am a patient person but honestly!!! It’s like he was doing it for show.

Roundeartheratchriatmas · 22/12/2021 14:49

No I don’t do any of that it’s ridiculous. Apart from anything else catching covid that was isn’t particularly likely.

WakeUpLockie · 22/12/2021 14:49

*empty bays, not bags. Car bays, that no one else could access because of this dude taking his sweet time.

DockOTheBay · 22/12/2021 14:54

I don't do any of those things. I did use gloves at the petrol station for the first few months after lockdown eased, and I did used to clean the trolley.
Never saw the point in sanitizing the tap as you're about to wash your hands anyway so even if the tap is smothered in virus, if you wash your hands properly it would be gone. Most public aps are touch free anyway.
