Not wanting to do LTR for Xmas

Wizotto · 20/12/2021 21:09

Asked everyone invited to Christmas at ours to do a lateral flow test first as MIL coming and she would like this to happen. DB has kicked off at requirement as late notice and not a legal requirement and thinks I am being unreasonable to ask as not asked for this before. I don’t think it is at all unreasonable as MIL is in late 70s and has taken every precaution so far. Have offered to send a test if he can’t get hold of one if he lets me know asap.

You can get a code on line to collect them from your local chemist.

Wizotto · 20/12/2021 22:18

Update: all sorted amicably. Think it’s all just getting a bit much…but comments appreciated Smile

I’m glad it’s sorted OP. I just don’t get why people kick up about doing the tests. Surely by now everyone has some in; what are they scared of?!

Thewiseoneincognito · 20/12/2021 22:30

Tell him to piss off and stay away if that’s his attitude. What a dick, stupid man child.

billy1966 · 20/12/2021 22:37

@KaycePollard

It’s polite, sensible and caring.

Your brother sounds like a bit of an ignorant arse. Sorry.

This.

What a twat your brother is.

Summerfun54321 · 20/12/2021 23:17

Maybe he didn’t realise what orifice the swab needed to go in. I can’t see any other reason for refusing to do a LFT.

ImJustAsking · 20/12/2021 23:20

Think we’re about to have this issue in our family, one not wanting to do one incase it messes up their plans. Refuse to test the kids even if symptomatic and don’t think people should have to silage anymore. But think it’s fine to ask a young adult who was shielding to meet up for days and risks dying of covid. Because their freedom innit

livinthedream1995 · 20/12/2021 23:21

I feel like he’s arguing for the sake of arguing in all honesty. I wouldn’t object if anyone wanted me to take a lateral flow test before meeting them regardless of whether they were vulnerable or not. It literally takes 15 mins and provides reassurance…. Really feels like arguing for the sake of arguing. I get pandemic fatigue, Christ knows I’m right up there with that but to me that’s such a simple request.

livinthedream1995 · 20/12/2021 23:23

Sorry just saw the update, glad it’s sorted!!

Spooked102 · 20/12/2021 23:37

Yanbu it takes two seconds to fi a test ffs.

Spooked102 · 20/12/2021 23:37

Do*

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 20/12/2021 23:49

Of course it’s not late notice! Honestly, I’m a bugger for liking everything clear in advance, but of course it’s not late notice to do a 15 min test!

I’ve been able to get them perfectly fine online where I am, so he might well be able to get them (not sure if it goes by geography or luck of the draw ordering at the right time).

It’s just common sense to try not to infect people.

AlannaOfTrebond · 20/12/2021 23:50

Glad you have sorted it.
I'm still socialising with friends in pubs as well as meeting at friends houses, so have been doing LFTs every two days at the minimum and daily if I know someone is particularly vulnerable - why on earth wouldn't I?

What does mean? Who conceded?

Your house, your rules. (sorry)

Zorya · 21/12/2021 00:08

@TwinklyBranch

It's hardly late notice, LFTs are quick to do. YANBU. No test, no turkey!
No Test, No Turkey! Grin You should be doing the government’s slogans.
RobinPenguins · 21/12/2021 00:16

Late notice? They only take 15 minutes, he can sit in the car and do it outside your house if he can’t be arsed to get hold of one.

Strictlyfanoftenyears · 21/12/2021 00:47

Surely he could just tell you he had had a negative test (its not like you are going to actually see the results is it?) So in reality you could ask everybody but you can only rely on their honesty to tell you.

Mosaic123 · 21/12/2021 00:50

It's the new etiquette.

Take a LFT before you meet up with friends and family.

LifeIsTricky · 21/12/2021 01:56

@TwinklyBranch @Zorya I second this. No Test, No Turkey, but also add No Twister. We know the gov live for the rule of 3 on their slogans. For some reason my family always end up doing drunken Twister on Christmas Day. Definitely not an appropriate game without an LFT beforehand!

backtolifebacktoreality · 21/12/2021 01:58

Your house, your rules!

backtolifebacktoreality · 21/12/2021 02:00

And it doesn't take 30 minutes. It takes less than five. You just have to wait 30 minutes for the result.

Chloemol · 21/12/2021 02:07

Tell him not to come then, I would

Chloemol · 21/12/2021 02:08

We are doing tests, we will be showing the results on the family WhatsApp

And if I was the op I would be demanding proof

Strictlyfanoftenyears · 21/12/2021 12:16

How have we got to the stage of asking for proof of lft before meeting up with family? That is so sad, do we not trust our relatives any more. That is so very sad.........

Strictlyfanoftenyears · 21/12/2021 12:19

I mean I dont see the problem about doing the test, but actually asking for physical evidence seems really strange. ( The lack of trust seems odd....)
