Present ideas for a 19yo?

Have been asking DS for weeks for present ideas. He has either expressed no preference, or says he doesn't mind.

He's a good boy, very undemanding. Doesn't work currently due to some MH issues which the last 20 months haven't helped, spends most of his time in his room (has lots of online gaming friends all round the world). Has every kind of tech gadget for his computer, phone, ear buds, etc. Doesn't drink. Quite likes cooking. Always buys me nice presents for Christmas and birthday.

I've got him some clothes, stocking fillers and I will give him some money and have kind of resigned myself to that being that but I was hoping someone might be able to suggest something else he might like. Earlier this year I was asking him about decorating his room/ new furniture but he just says 'it's ok I'm happy with what I have'. If anything that makes it worse!

I've bought my 19 yr old DS an Ancestry DNA kit, as he's expressed an interest in family history

Also a make a brownie kit, Connect 4, some stick on colour changing lights for his room

But does he have a heated throw? My teenager loves his for all night chess things. (Heating goes off at 10!).

christmassytime · 20/12/2021 20:46

Yes, heated throw was last year's successful Christmas present, he absolutely loves it.

He might quite like some sort of cake kit, he's a good baker.

I had to google Santoku knife and realised it's what he bought me last birthday (I just know it as our lethally sharp knife Grin didn't realise it had a name)

Actually one of his latest obsessions is (online) chess. Will see if theres anything chess related I can get him.

A cookery class - that would get him out of his room and mixing in person?

A "Try first time scuba dive" find a local club, you should be able to buy a session

I have this exact issue with my 18 year old. He's autistic so super limited with what he likes! I have big success with a sweet/chocolate hamper. I make it myself and just fill a box with bits and pieces. I've done an American one (Asda have lots of American sweets) and also ordered foreign ones via Amazon in the past. I got a wet shaver as a stocking filler, big mug for hot chocolate.

Buy him a flying lesson! They get a short go at actually flying the plane when it is cruising in mid air. We did it to a couple of relatives over 15 years ago....and every Christmas they STILL talk about it. It would cost in the region of £130.

junebirthdaygirl · 21/12/2021 12:27

Would he possibly go to a gym if you bought membership. A quiet local one?

christmassytime · 21/12/2021 12:42

@Alicenwonderland yes I've done the sweets thing too, I found some on Amazon for his last birthday from Japan/Korea (his favourite countries) which he thought were great!

I don't think he would go to a gym to be honest, we have a lot of equipment at home (treadmill, static bike, weights) which he uses from time to time.

He doesn't drive yet; I have asked him about driving lessons but he's not keen and tbh most instructors seem to have huge waiting lists anyway. It would be nice to get him out into the world a little bit more.

I know a young guy who is on the spectrum and loves Japan and he started taking Japanese lessons. Never saw him as excited about anything. Would he like that on line where you would pay. Maybe a mad idea but the guy l know it made his day when his mom hired a Japanese tutor once a week.

The spicery do lovely kits (Currys, mezze etc) but not sure if you're too late for postage now
