To say I'm not taking him for another PCR?

My 1 year old is unwell. He has a high temp, a rash up his back and front and diarrhea.

He has been unwell now for about 6 days. The doctor saw him late last week and said virus and to go back if he doesn't pick up in next few days. He hasn't and the rash is now spreading to his face and causing him to itch. I want him checked again.

They are insisting he needs another PCR before a face to face appointment.

AIBU to refuse and to push for an appointment anyway?

I don't know how I missed the most crucial part of my post sorry!!

I meant to add that he had a PCR test 5 days ago which was negative, his symptoms are not any different to what they were then.

It took a day and a half to come back before the doctor would see him property (and not over the phone) and I'm not comfortable leaving him that long again to do another test when he's only just had one.

No you shouldn't take him for another PCR. The GP can't insist on seeing patients who are covid negative! They should have a system for seeing patients with a temperature, he's 1 and he needs to be seen by his GP

What happens if he does have covid? Does that mean he doesn't get seen? They are doctors, seeing infectious children is part of the job. It's pure negligence to refuse to see children because they might be infectious

EezyOozy · 20/12/2021 13:36

I agree with @KeepApart

NoNameHere12 · 20/12/2021 13:40

He needs to be seen right away and can’t wait 1-2 days for the results to come back.

Put your foot down OP.

DeepaBeesKit · 20/12/2021 13:45

I would go apesshit at this

Explain it would take 48 hours for a response on a PCR, minimum, and ask how you can access the medical care your child needs now in the meantime

MizzFizz · 20/12/2021 14:00

Take him to the hospital?

rainbowtinsel · 20/12/2021 17:46

Are you dealing with a receptionist?

Take name, make sure they know you're making note of it.

Explain to them the timescale of a PCR and that with your DC's symptoms (which aren't covid typical) time is really of the essence.

If still no joy ask if you can speak to the GP directly and say if they don't facilitate they will potential have the health of your child on their shoulders and that you won't hesitate to take things further with the practice management at a later date.

If dealing with the GP directly Explain the above again, if still no traction A&E, our pediatric A&E has always been amazing, and make it clear when you go thr GP refused to see you.

Mummadeze · 20/12/2021 17:48

I would go to A&E personally. Hope he gets better soon.

ChangeChingyChange · 20/12/2021 17:57

Yep he's 1. Phone 111 and by pass the GP. We always get much better outcomes and are seen faster via 111 than the GP route.

ChangeChingyChange · 20/12/2021 17:58

Don't just go to a&e. 111 are wonderful with under 5s. I've used them a lot recently for my 4 year old.

Frankola · 20/12/2021 18:01

Don't go to a&e please.

But do call 111 and bypass the GP. They've always been great at helping sort my 5 year old out efficiently.

And GPs wonder why people are going to a&e unnecessarily Angry

linerforlife · 20/12/2021 18:04

Does he have roseola? I've seen a few toddlers with it in the last two weeks. Usually starts as a cold, with high temp, then upset stomach then the rash appears about 5 days after it all starts?

ComDummings · 20/12/2021 18:06

Yes call 111

DukkaTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 20/12/2021 19:12

And this is why our a&e is full of children who could be seen at the GP.
