To not want to see sick relatives around Christmas.

All of our household has just have covid. So not really overly worried about covid as such but still being very cautious of course. Us all getting it has took out our whole build up to Christmas. It's taken 3 weeks to get through us all. Last of us will be out of isolation by 24th.

We intended to see family between Christmas and new year. Maybe Boxing Day as Dd will be out of isolation by that point.

There seems to be a 'as long as it's not covid' attitude and people don't seem to care that they are spreading other viruses as long as it's 'not covid'.

Anyway, family members are ill. Some have done pcrs but most are just doing lft's instead. Lft's are bizarre. They picked up the virus quickly for 2 out of 4 us in this house. With the other 2 of us they weren't reliable at all. I've told them they should do a pcr to be sure. They are more ill than we have been with covid tbh.

I guess the risk of us getting covid again is low but I still wouldn't want to be around people who had it for obvious reasons they should be isolating.

Secondly I don't even want to be around those with cold, flu, noro etc! It might not be covid but I don't want to be ill again. I know my kids could catch stuff in school but they won't be in school until January now.

My kids immune systems seem to take a bit after one virus so after covid I'm worried they might be more likely to pick other things up. This has happened before. In early 2020 I believe they may have had covid. One of their school friends had been to China too and lots of children and teachers got sick. My two were very poorly. They were on and off ill for 2 months after catching everything like their immune systems had taken a hit. Thankfully been totally fine since then and Thankfully covid had been mild this month.

After isolation I want healthy quality time with the family next week. Won't be doing much but walks on the beach, in the country, trips to the park. We've been stuck in for ages.

Family thinks I am mad because germs and viruses are every where.

But they don't know what it's like to parent two dc with sen when you are ill and you can't rest! They don't know how frustrating being stuck in with two sen children is when they are bored and climbing the walls.

Aibu? Ott or sensible?

I'm living for next week when we can all go out for some fresh air 😅

I posted on another thread to say this winter I have been sicker than I ever have before. I’ve had 4-6 weeks now of continuous illness. I’m on my second bout of tonsillitis (bacterial) in that time. I am fucking cancelling everything. It’s not even the COVID that worries me as I’m double jabbed, it’s everything else!!!! YANBU

astockingforme · 20/12/2021 08:44

We fairly recently had covid and I've now caught a cold too 😥. I'm desperate not to get anything else now! I was ill for christmas a couple of years ago and it was miserable.
At the end of day it's your risk and if you choose to be cautious they should respect that. Just stand firm.

mommal20 · 20/12/2021 08:45

YANBU, I'm really poorly at the moment and if I still feel like it come Christmas Day I won't go to Christmas dinner as we usually do. You shouldn't even have to question staying away, the people who are sick should be doing that. Hmm

violetbunny · 20/12/2021 08:49

Just because there are germs and viruses anywhere doesn't mean you have to knowingly expose yourself to them! I would definitely stay away from anyone who is ill. Even if it's a just cold, who wants a cold? Sad

EvenLess07 · 20/12/2021 09:05

I totally get it OP. I've had the most horrible virus, not Covid as I had a couple of PCR tests but awful cough, totally lost my voice and exhausted. Starting to come out the other side but tbh I'm so knackered I just don't really care about Christmas at the moment.

AmIAGrinchx · 20/12/2021 09:05

YANBU.
I'm chronically ill and have just gotten over covid, but it's flared up all my illnesses at once. I feel terrible.
If someone gave me a cold or flu or whatever on top I may have to bite their head off in a rage.
Keep your germs to yourself. Xmas Angry

AD80 · 20/12/2021 09:09

Thanks all. It's a tough time. A lot of us are ill with both covid or non covid things.

I had a nasty non covid cough before I got covid too and totally different symptoms with covid - no cough! I just want to go into 2022 healthy!

We've always tended to stay away from people when sick even before covid. But people seems to think as long as it's not covid it's
Okay to spread germs now! Even with things like norovirus etc! Managed to escape from that one for over 2 years now! Ds has got particularly poorly with norovirus a few times! What can be a simple illness for most people before, can be dreadful for others 😪

I had an awful cough just before I got covid. I was coughing all night and day. 2 pcrs were negative so it was not covid. I shaked off the cough and got covid - with no cough. Dd has had a lingering cough after a nasty virus in November (pcrs negative). She now has covid with no symptoms, her lingering cough has not got worse or anything!

Hope you're better now 💕

Never apologise for putting your health first. Your immune system is probably through the floor anyway so it doesn't need to take another hit. YANBU.

Hear hear! Well said, BatshitBanshee

AD80 - perhaps you could say 'do you want me to apologise for putting my family's health first?' On repeat, if necessary.

I understand. We had covid a couple of weeks ago, DD caught it at school and it did the rounds in the house although somehow DH and two of our DC got away with it. The toddlers were hit the hardest (probably because they haven’t been exposed to many viruses due to lockdowns). They had a fever and cough and just generally felt rubbish for a solid 4-5 days. Lots of broken sleep, it was a horrible couple of weeks but we’re out of the woods so to speak now. I caught it and just had burning sinuses for a few days, no big deal. I wouldn’t want another illness to do the rounds now, I’d like to stay sickness free at least over Christmas until DC go back to school and start bringing endless colds into the house again. We had the ‘super cold’ in October and that totally wiped me out, way worse than covid. My toddlers struggle even with colds and I do blame lockdowns, they didn’t get sick at all for so long when their immune systems were supposed to be building so now even a cold is a big deal.

AD80 · 20/12/2021 11:17

@Hemingwayscatz hope you are all better now. Mine has been burning sinuses too! Hope little ones are okay! I think this is all worse for the little ones. Mine are a little older now and caught their fair share of viruses over the years. But for little ones they've not had the chance to build their immune systems etc and catching everything! Let's hope for a healthy rest of the year 💕 then roll on spring! 😅

YANBU, and really sensible.

DS9, DD15 and I had Covid last month, and all three of us have been poorly since. I've been signed off work with a racing heart and exhaustion, but picked up norovirus from my very elderly parents. DS9 has had constant cough, cold, earache and bad stomach, and my normally rudely healthy dd15 has had almost a week off in addition to Covid which is unheard of.

So I really don't think you're being OTT at all. The past few weeks have been an absolute nightmare with illness and juggling work and school!
