To hire a wheelchair? (pregnant)

notanotherschoolrun · 19/12/2021 21:46

Really want to go out with OH tomorrow to
Pick up last bit of Christmas presents.
I'm 6 months pregnant and really struggling to get around, I can walk for 10 mins then I have to go Sit down. Dizziness heart palpitations feel like I'm about to faint can't breathe properly etc. It's so frustrating every time we go out I end up back in the car and leave OH to go round on his own and he comes back with nothing.

I was planning on hiring one at the shopping centre but not sure if it's a bit selfish of me?

Have you seen a doctor?

NiceTwin · 19/12/2021 21:48

Have you spoken to your midwife about your symptoms?
It doesn't sound normal to me.

Is your dh happy to.push you round? If so, hire one.

imsureineverdo · 19/12/2021 21:50

That's not normal, call your midwife and do the rest of your shopping online?

PotteringAlong · 19/12/2021 21:51

None of that is normal in pregnancy.

Do not go shopping
Do not hire a wheelchair
Go to hospital

notanotherschoolrun · 19/12/2021 21:51

To be honest I've never even met my midwife I've had all appointments over the phone. But I am meeting her tomorrow so will bring it up. I had this in my last pregnancy but it turned out I had thyroid issues that disappeared after I had DD so it could be back again.

This could be pre-eclampsia OP, you shouldn't feel like this, especially not at 6 months pregnant. You need to see a doctor asap, go to your Obstetric Assessment Unit. They need to check your bloods, urine and blood pressure and do the CTG.

mdh2020 · 19/12/2021 21:52

You would probably have to book a wheelchair in advance. Our local all has reduced the number of chairs available since Covid. I hope you are ok - you should definitely talk to someone medical about your symptoms. They are not normal .

FusciasBright21 · 19/12/2021 21:53

Go to hospital!!!

129orbust · 19/12/2021 21:54

6 months pregnant and everytime you go out you end up sitting in the car? So this has been going on since month 4? month 5?
Pregnancy is not an illness and this is not normal. You should feel exactly the same as pre-pregnancy except perhaps a little more tired unless you have an issue.
Go see your GP or midwife team in the morning.

pinkyredrose · 19/12/2021 21:56

You need a Dr's appt and your OH needs to learn to shop alone.

RedCandyApple · 19/12/2021 21:57

Yes this doesn’t sound normal
To me, I’ve had 4 children and never felt like I needed a wheelchair, and I don’t drive so walked everywhere

AutumnLeaves21 · 19/12/2021 21:58

Not normal, definitely see a midwife.
Also at 6 months pregnant you should have had an antenatal check at 16 weeks and when you attended for your 20 week scan, arrange one with your midwife asap.

TappThatJazz · 19/12/2021 22:17

Yep I echo everyone else. That isn't normal. You need to seek medical advice.

Tiredmum100 · 19/12/2021 22:19

I felt like this with dc2. I was anaemic. Ring your GP or midwife for a review.

gogohm · 19/12/2021 22:19

This isn't normal, I would suggest calling 111 now

notanotherschoolrun · 19/12/2021 22:25

I don't know whether to wait until the morning when I see midwife or call up. Isn't the assessment unit just for fetal movement? I feel so faint and breathless.

Mummy1608 · 19/12/2021 22:27

Wow I had the worst pregnancy ever (I mean I exaggerate but it really was extremely bad) so I clicked on this thread expecting you had PGP or similar, which does sometimes leave you needing a wheelchair. (I had PGP but didn't quite need a wheelchair although I sometimes longed for one!) I also had really bad dizziness and nausea and they put me on iron and cyclizine.
Please get help because you sound really unwell, this isn't normal, and there's treatment that can help.

Mummy1608 · 19/12/2021 22:29

If you're really unwell there should be a 24h midwife hotline, I had to call mine a fair few times Sad and lots of the times it turned out to be something semi-serious, including a rush to hospital at 33 weeks (I got better with treatment)... don't want to alarm you but call now to be on the safe side!

PurplePansy05 · 19/12/2021 22:33

OP, the OAU isn't only for fetal movements, if you're unwell you can call up, describe your symptoms and they'll likely ask you to come in. Describe in detail what's been going on, and also repeat this to your midwife tomorrow. As pps said, you should have been seen in person at least a couple of times by now so make sure you request better care going forward.

HereticFanjo · 19/12/2021 22:34

May well be anaemic, tell your midwife. I had those symptoms and needed iron tablets.

unfar · 19/12/2021 22:34

Oh bless you. I have heart issues which obviously worsen in pregnancy so completely understand how you feel re the palpitations and dizziness.

No you wouldn't be unreasonable to hire a wheelchair but you do need to be checked out by a Dr. I'd ring your GP in the morning and ask them to put in the necessary referrals. In my experience they'll want to rule out a blood clot in the lung first.

TuesdayRuby · 19/12/2021 22:37

Agree with all of the pp. I thought I’d be reading about a 39 weeker with SPD not someone at six months who can’t walk far without getting dizzy! Definitely get yourself checked out OP.

Just10moreminutesplease · 19/12/2021 22:37

Definitely ring someone OP. I’d try triage and ask them to transfer you if they’re not the right people to speak to.

There’s nothing wrong with hiring a wheelchair if you need one for any reason… but you might be better sending your DP shopping while you put your feet up!

Take care Flowers.

PurplePansy05 · 19/12/2021 22:37

She doesn't need a GP referral if she's 6 months pregnant, if it's pregnancy related she'll be seen at the OAU, might need to wait for an obstetrician and/or a specialist consultant there. OP, call the OAU now, they work 24/7.

ForestLake · 19/12/2021 22:38

Yeah, it doesn't sound normal at 6 months.
