I done my Tesco Christmas delivery order last night and had a crazy moment and thought fuck it lifes too short. So I bunged in Auntie Bessies Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes, gravy granules and packets of veg. This will be the first Christmas I've ever used pre made bits. My master plan is too pop Bing Crosby up a little bit louder in the kitchen to hide the packets rustling then bury the evidence in a bag at the bottom of the bin Xmas Blush

You are not being unreasonable - welcome to the dark side where you have more time to stuff your face with chocolates and prosecco.

You are being unreasonable - get your coat and leave MN

@santabetterwashhishands

We all feel like crap in this house( not covid) and are full of cold. If we still feel like crap on Christmas Day I'm doing beans on toast and saving the Christmas dinner until we feel better. Last year I went all out and nobody ate more than a mouthful because everyone except me had the flu 😩
Aww sorry to read about last year that must have been hard going. Definitely go with the beans on toast this year. I hope you all get better soon 💐

Fucks sake you should be rearing your own turkey too - sheer laziness.

More time to do my hair/paint my nails 😉

I married a chef but come Christmas nobody can be arsed. We have a cook from frozen turkey joint and pre prepared trimmings. Goes down a treat. The roasties aren't quite as good but cover them in gravy and I'm happy,

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 19/12/2021 16:15

I will keep my fingers crossed for you that everything turns out well for you.

Thank you @StarryNightSparkles

We got an email to say 2 more children in DD1’s year group have tested positive, bringing the total up to 4 (I’m furious that they didn’t tell us about the first 2!). I’ve heard about at least 5 others testing positive on LFTs since then too. Sad

Icantremembermyusername · 19/12/2021 16:15

I keep Port in the house to add to gravy and cranberry sauce. The gravy is a pouch but the cranberry sauce is home made. Eat any leftovers on brie and cranberry toasties.
I only ever have 1 roast potato so I cook frozen ones. No one seems to mind or notice!

StarryNightSparkles · 19/12/2021 16:15

Thanks for all the fabulous tips 😊

Meant to add, I also found in the freezer pigs in blankets and stuffing from last year that I didn't have the guts to use. Will use them this year 😉

I have a suggestion for the roast potatoes! I've seen TV chefs squash the roast potatoes, you could sling some oil in a tray, the roasties then squash then when theyre defrosted!

That sounds fab! Thank you. I flung a jar of cranberry sauce in my basket last night.

I am a fallen woman 😕

You won't fool anyone with frozen roasties or frozen yorky puds.

Try these yorkshire puddings next time OP and you might stand a chance Wink

We buy the Morrisons equivalent.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 19/12/2021 16:19

I’ve just done my Tesco order on exactly the same basis @StarryNightSparkles. I’m risking until 2pm on Christmas Eve, then am on standby until 1/1. I’m not spending that pseudo time off prepping food!!

Lovely tip 😊 and something to fling into conversation... oh it's a little chef's tip, I picked up years ago. You squash the potatoes.

YANBU- Why do more if you don't have to?

justthecat · 19/12/2021 16:22

I’m doing the same, I’m interested to see if I can get away with the roasties. Plus it’s AUNTY Bessie, just like a relative helping out really 😬

Sorry to read that, what a nightmare. I can see why you are not happy. My friends really anxious and not happy with her dds school as it's rife but nothing much is getting done about it.

Yes exactly good old auntie passing down the family recipes. Will make a note of that for conversation also.

I prefer aunt bessies to home made. Less faff too.

Top tip - if putting a lot of frozen things in the oven allow a little more time as the oven temps seems to drop and take a while to heat back up. Not that I've ever done a full on frozen dinner for 12 of course
