Exercise After Robotic Hysterectomy

Sorry posting for traffic as I didn't get a response on Women's Health

I had a robotic hysterectomy 3 weeks ago due to being BRCA2 positive, complications with Tamoxifen causing endometrial Hyperplasia and breast cancer at 38.

My Dr insists only walking for 3 months. Every reputable medical site says 6-8 weeks.

How long did you wait before you did yoga, cycling, jogging etc?

There were no complications and I feel great.

TIA

The risk is not of the op... healing time should be fab done that way. The risk is that where your womb was, there is now a space..and your organs shift a little. High impact (eg jogging) gives a risk of vaginal vault prolapse. After my hysterectomy (also in my 30s) I was warned to avoid running..permamently.
I can't imagine any problems with yoga, cycling, I would leave a little longer as the abdominal muscles will still be healing.. running , well I wouldn't, but if you must, then I'd listen to your doctor. As someone with mild prolases all round..you don't want anything falling south!
|I was like you, felt fine, went back to a physical job after 6 weeks, but in hindsight (it's a great gift Grin) I did too much too soon .

Mine wasn't robotic - abdominal hysterectomy and BSO. I steered clear of anything strenuous for several months. I had a very good recovery and five years on, the scar is hardly visible, but it's not worth taking chances after such major surgery.

I'm afraid i can't advise the the hysterectomy yet, but just wanted to ask you if you mind, how you found out about the hyperplasia. I'm taking Tamoxifen and it's a constant worry.

(Taking it preventatively due to family history).

StillMedusa thanks I didn't think about that. I'll check with the Dr to see if he advises I stop jogging. I've been signed off for a month. Quite enjoy being at home and in no rush to get back to work.
Allsortsofroses I went into early menopause because of chemo and Tamoxifen. I had heavy bleeding and a biopsy confirmed endometrial Hyperplasia. My Dr advised to have hysterectomy along with ovaries being removed.

ArblemarzipanTFruitcake thanks, I'll probably do some gentle yoga and then cycle after 3 months or so.

Thank you Mercurial, you've been through an awful lot at quite a young age. I wish there was more genetic testing happening proactively.
