To want DH to wear something smart occasionally?

This is fairly light hearted but I would like to know if I’m being unreasonable.

At the start of lockdown, DH bought a zip up hoodie from Asda. He loved it and so bought another. Since then I’m not exaggerating, he’s barely worn anything else. Sometimes t shirts in the summer but mostly it’s been grey hoodie then black hoodie.

My issue is he looks so scruffy. He doesn’t wear a top under it so you can see his hairy chest and they are a bit too big and shapeless.

He’s been WFH so doesn’t need to look smart for work.

However there’s been a few times lately where we’ve been going somewhere nice - not ball gown nice but just things like kids parties where I know photos will be taken and be just wears the hoodie. All my social media photos with him on have him wearing the same outfit!

AIBU to want him to get bloody changed?!

Buy him a pull over hoodie for Christmas, in a colour that isn't grey or black. My boyfriend wears a lot of hoodies, but a nice fitting pull over one, with some dark jeans and clean trainers or leather shoes looks causal rather than scruffy.

Next do some nice ones:

Grin this made me giggle my partner is the same. Same black tshirt and blue jeans everytime. Even on birthday nights out. Even worse he orders them from amazon as he cant be bothered shopping Hmm. How can we politely tell them? To be fair he wears a shirt everyday for work so at least i get that 10 second glimpse of hmm hello hotness GrinBlush haha it makes a nice change what can i say

Kbyodjs · 19/12/2021 12:35

I feel like this with DH wearing tracksuits and jogging bottoms; I heavily hinted and told him I missed his jeans as he looks so good in them

Covidtrap · 19/12/2021 12:35

On a side note could you hide them to see what he wears instead Grin failing that accidentally spill something on it before he goes out. Oh darn he has to change Wink

Ragruggers · 19/12/2021 12:35

It must be very warm n your house if he just wears a hoodie.Maybe turn the heating of then he will wear more clothes.I would hate DH walking around like that obviously he doesn’t care about his appearance or what you would like to see.Good luck.

icedcoffees · 19/12/2021 12:37

Hmm, while I'm all for people wearing whatever they feel comfortable in, I do think some occasions call for more than a scruffy hoody with no t-shirt on underneath!

So, in the house I think YABU, but outside of the house, YANBU.

ChangeChingyChange · 19/12/2021 13:04

I would get him some designer ones for Christmas, different colours etc and insist on wearing a t shirt underneath. Just tell him it's embarrassing and no one wants to see his chest hair

steff13 · 19/12/2021 23:39

You could just lean into it; buy him a thick gold chain and pretend he's in the mafia.

@Blahdyblahbla

Yanbu, its a bit weird to wear a zip up Hoddesdon without a tshirt isn't it, wouldn't it then need to be washed after each wear? My DP used to he very fond of wearing those slinky sports tops everywhere, in the end I asked if he'd mind sometimes wearing something else, he was happy to, and never wears the slinky now.
A zip up Hoddesdon? Can you get Morrisons and the giant tower block over it inside that?

Just wait until he retires OP if you think you have problems now.
A friend said to me last week, "all these years I thought I was married to a professional man but it turns out I'm married to Steptoe!"

I can't get my DH out of his waterproof, padded anorak - yes, even indoors.
He only takes it off to go to bed.
In summer it gets swapped for a lightweight, unpadded anorak!

Don't know if there's a connection but both these men had jobs where they wore suits, collar and tie etc.

I think a lot of people gave up worrying what they looked like. Most people have reverted to normal but not all

This post could have a monkey's paw, horror-style ending, where you get your desire, and DH finally dresses in smart clothes... but it's for your or his own funeral.

Completely know what you mean! DH wears the same things all the time around the house (also WFH) and I miss seeing him a bit more dressed up.

Same here with DH sigh I hinted earlier on that as he's covering management role this week he might like to wear something a litter smarter as he's 'playing with the big guns'. We shall see 🙄 🤞🏻 ❤️

I get that the lack of a T-shirt means the hoodies are more likely to get dirty/sweaty quicker, but how far unzipped is the hoodie for visible chest hair to be a problem (to the point that posters have said they’d be ‘cringing’)? Presumably he isn’t leaving it open with his chest totally exposed? Can you really see much more than you would if he was wearing a v-neck t-shirt or open-necked shirt?
