I know this has nothing to do with being a mum/baby etc but does anyone know if I should be worried about this? I had severe pain in my gum/tooth for about 3 weeks, I’ve been to the dentist and they told me it’s just my wisdom tooth coming through. It’s now a couple weeks later and the gum has grown over it but it’s this weird colour? I’ve also had a very sore throat for over a month too. Do I go back to the dentist?

Can’t find anything like it on the internet. Help please?

It's a compacted wisdom tooth. Looks like it's trying to break through. This year alone mine have gone from this to fully erupting. Not sure why. Get it checked to make sure you haven't got a cavity where part of the gum is uncovering the tooth. They can be tricky to clean

FawnFrenchieMum · 18/12/2021 21:17

I’m no expert but looks a little infected. I’d probably get it checked again.

Yes go back if it's still hurting

DEFO go to the dentist ASAP! Looks a bit eeeeeeek !!! Shock

sqirrelfriends · 18/12/2021 21:25

Looks like mine did after they first erupted. Basically they never came out fully and were partially covered with gum which became stretched but never actually broke.

A bit of gum basically died and caused an infection. Before the infection started it went whiteish and swollen, kind of how your looks.

If you start to feel it's infected, get some antibiotics ASAP. Mine spread to my face/cheek and it was awful.

Thanks everyone! Will go back to the dentist asap!

The white film means it’s infected. You need a dentist and a doctor. Try gargling salty warm water meanwhile.

Bloops · 18/12/2021 21:56

This used to happen to me ALL THE TIME until I got it removed. It looks infected or impacted, maybe even both. Warm, salty water rinses and a mouthwash with chlorhexidine will help. Hold it over the area for a few mins 3 to 4 times a day. Hope you feel better soon, I know how rough it can be :(

blubberyboo · 18/12/2021 23:35

Warm salt water rinses. Also use a cotton bud dipped in the salt water to clean around where the gum and tooth meet. I think there could be a flap of gum over the tooth and food is getting stuck there and getting infected. It might bleed a bit but I always found it gave relief from pain

blubberyboo · 18/12/2021 23:37

You also might be best to book in and get the wisdom tooth removed

Hygienist here. It’s pericoronitis. Very common. Very painful. You need to clean it as best you can , warm salt water mouth wash and probably antibiotics / metronidazole from your dentist.

Christmasmorning519 · 19/12/2021 09:07

Ideally , the areas needs to be irrigated / cleaned with an ultra sonic scaler by the dentist or hygienist to remove debris / disrupt plaque bacteria . If you have a small headed tooth brush you can have a little “dig” around yourself but do see your dentist. It does look like it needs a good clean and some antibiotics .

Thank you everybody!
