Is EVERTHING 'carefully curated' now?

Seems pretty much every online shop is trying to flog me a carefully curated selection of overpriced something or other.

Or their latest 'edit'

Today I purchased some carefully curated granny pants from M&S (it was from their post menopausal 'edit')

My partner gets annoyed with me if I ask him to Plate Up, in my defense I have worked in catering before, even if it was just a cafe :P

SturminsterNewton · 18/12/2021 20:58

And why "epicentre" when they just mean "centre"; and "iconic" instead of "famous"?

Grilledaubergines · 18/12/2021 21:15

Please may I add “dropped” as in “John Lewis dropped their Christmas advert today” or “Adele’s new single drops today”.

AdaFuckingShelby · 18/12/2021 21:19

Dropped can fuck off.

violetbunny · 18/12/2021 21:52

But won't somebody think of the poor marketers who have to come with this drivel? Their brains are probably addled by now Grin

zigzag56445 · 18/12/2021 21:57

Price point Hmm

KatyMac · 18/12/2021 22:27

I used to have a fabric stash - DH nagged me about it and said I wasn't a sew-er but a fabric collector

So now I have a carefully curated collection and when he teases I agree and say collecting and storing fabric is part of my curating hobby

OakRowan · 18/12/2021 22:34

Curated = ordered from the same wholesalers as all the other shops that sell the same things. Nit an art gallery, nit a museum, shops. I've got a retail job and this word is banned. We have stock, for sale, when we get deliveries it is new stock, it wasn't curated by anyone, it was ordered in and it gets sold to customers.

JanisMoplin · 18/12/2021 22:34

@A580Hojas

"Curated" is my most disliked word of the decade. What a load of pretentious bollocks.
Agree!
TrashyPanda · 18/12/2021 22:36

@BobbinThreadbare123

I dislike the "curated ear". Used to be called "some piercings" back in the day Grin
That was my first thought too.

It’s soooo stupid and sooooo pretentious.

But it is a good way to spot a prat and thereafter avoid

BlueSkyeThinker · 18/12/2021 22:48

There's a weird passive tone creeping into the language of marketers. Gifted, curated, excited for, shop the curated, ngggghhhh

Couldn’t agree more. Loathsome expression
TractorAndHeadphones · 18/12/2021 22:54

Sigh... I remember the days where it actually used to mean something!YANBU

gukvguk · 18/12/2021 22:57

My ears have been 'curated' for years and I never knew it. It's ridiculous.

Classica · 18/12/2021 23:00

Curated makes me flare my nostrils in annoyance. Actual curators must get so fecked off with it.

Not as bad as gifted though. 'My father gifted me a saucepan'.

Fuck off.

Twillow · 18/12/2021 23:03

The word 'designed'/ gets me. It didn't spontaneously generate, did it, of course it was designed!

Classica · 18/12/2021 23:08

Another marketing/branding expression that seems to becoming more prevalent is 'waitlist', Waiting list must sound insufferably staid or something.

HangingOver · 18/12/2021 23:11

Can I add in "in store" or "on pack"

Whyisitsodifficult · 18/12/2021 23:14

Luxe 😬

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 18/12/2021 23:20

So you chose th3 bands, you insufferable wanker?

Grin Grin Grin

That and I am a ley lineman for the county win MN tonight

Lockheart · 18/12/2021 23:28

I hate "sourced".

Someone on here was talking about presents they'd carefully "sourced". Which I presume means they googled it and looked at about 5 websites before choosing.

Look, if you've had to use a extensive and tenuous link of contacts to carefully extract and transport finest and rarest handmade textiles from Morocco or Benin, yes, you've sourced something and you have every right to use that.

Sharon of 5 Crescent Drive Chipping Norton however does not "source" anything by ordering it off bloody Amazon.

And as a former actual museum curator, don't get me started on the pretentious fuckery that is "curated".

MerylSqueak · 18/12/2021 23:53

@BestZebbie

I’m an actual museum curator. Ironically, I hardly ever “curate” things anymore, the emphasis has shifted totally to audience collaboration!
I think I love you
Niconacotaco · 19/12/2021 00:07

I dislike knit as a noun. It's a jumper.

Like 'designer' clothes - even Primark dresses have a designer FFS!
MrsMoastyToasty · 19/12/2021 08:32

"I'm loving" rather than "I love" as in "I'm loving the new trouser" really gets my goat.
