To use a tea towel as a hand towel?

My otherwise lovely new squeeze thinks it's weird that I don't have a separate hand towel in the kitchen for my hands. I think he's weird. What do mumsnetters think(other than that we should get out more)?

Dosnt matter really if you drying a clean pair wet hands or clean mug. No point changing two clean towels a day when one will do. Obviously different in a catering kitchen bit just you in own kitchen think one is fine

In the kitchen we take a clean dish towel to dry the dishes then it gets hung up and used as a hand towel.

As long as neither get left to be nasty, I can't see the issue.

I have two tea towels one for hands one for utensils, plates etc. Just in case the hands don't get cleaned as thoroughly as they should.

Not separate here
I use flour sack (thin Muslin like cotton) towels for hands and dishes. Wash them regularly. Have two or three on the go and wash after two or three days.
I do tend to use one for hand drying when I’m cooking which I kind of sequester as ‘not 100% clean’. Would not dry a glass with it. Might dry something else with it.

My step mother had a religious fervour about the separation of role. When I visited or stayed we had to break out different colours not just thick and thin so I stood a chance of getting it right. As an adult I’d often be chatting to her in her kitchen and she would kind of freeze staring at whatever I was doing - the wrong towel. She’d try to say it didn’t matter. It clearly did !

I use the tea towel for drying hands. I get a fresh one out every day though so they get washed regularly.

I have a towel for hands and several tea towels on the go

I prefer a separate hand towel and then a linen tea towel. Very different items. If anyone can tell me where to buy hand towels btw PLEASE do as I can't find them anywhere.

I don't have separate towels either but I think he's right you "should" have separate towels for hands

In my defence I do throw about half a dozen tea towels a day in the washing machine (probably they should be washed separately too...?)

Always different towels for hands and dishes. Dishes are generally clean when dried. Hands, not always. Especially if you have children. You should see the state of the hand towel at the end of the day! As for changing them, I deliberately have a large supply of hand-towels, tea-towels and dishcloths, and will change them as many times a day as necessary.

If I didn’t have a machine I would just drip dry stuff, so would only need a cloth if there was loads to do at once. Always a lazy option..
