Under current rules family members of positive Omicron cases don’t need to isolate if under 18 or jabbed.

Seeing as Omicron is evading vaccinated and boosters, if you had a positive result for it would you

YABU - attend a family dinner/ socialise even if a member of your household has the omicron variant

YANBU - Self-isolate too and not put others at risk of an awful Xmas/NYE (even if you don’t have to)

I’m of the opinion that you should SI to safeguard others as the likelihood you’ll catch from family member/child is likely with this variant, but curious to see others opinions.

WWID? I would put this in the Corona virus topic not AIBU.

MrBigTiger · 18/12/2021 10:33

YANBU.

Shiningpath · 18/12/2021 10:33

Are you sure that’s right? I thought you had to isolate even if jabbed if it’s omicron.

Cocomarine · 18/12/2021 10:35

@ChoporNot

WWID? I would put this in the Corona virus topic not AIBU.
And I get to agree with the very first reply!
Cocomarine · 18/12/2021 10:36

👏🏻 For the loaded wording of your answers though 🤣

CastleCrasher · 18/12/2021 10:36

Here you have to isolate if a contact until you get a PCR. If negative, you can stop isolating if you do LfTs

Tillsforthrills · 18/12/2021 10:38

Thanks to those with relevant comments to the question.

@Shiningpath. You do if you’re positive but I’m talking about household members of a positive omicron case.

OP posts:
SpookyScarySkeletons · 18/12/2021 10:41

Sorry but I'm pretty sure you have got that wrong.

If confirmed as omicron then all close contacts have to isolate.

Tillsforthrills · 18/12/2021 10:43

@SpookyScarySkeletons

The rules were changed to all variants. In England, under 18’s and those jabbed don’t need to SI even if it’s omicron.

HoseMeDownWithHollyWater · 18/12/2021 10:44

Do you really need two posts about covid simultaneously?

Shiningpath · 18/12/2021 10:45

Might help to indicate where you live OP given the UK nations have varying rules.

Cocomarine · 18/12/2021 10:45

@Tillsforthrills

Thanks to those with relevant comments to the question.

@Shiningpath. You do if you’re positive but I’m talking about household members of a positive omicron case.

And no thanks to those advising you of the correct board for this then?

I’d have more tolerance for use of AIBU if you at least had an AIBU question 🤷🏻‍♀️ you have your opinion, clearly stated, plus your extremely biased language. So you don’t think you’re unreasonable at all.

So even if you don’t think all Covid questions should go to their own board, you’re still filling it up with shite that shouldn’t be here.

And yeah: 👮 I am, actually!

Tillsforthrills · 18/12/2021 10:46

@Shiningpath

I’ve stated England.

Different rules for Scotland and Wales

Shiningpath · 18/12/2021 10:46

We virtually cross posted. No need for the attitude.

Tillsforthrills · 18/12/2021 10:48

Title should say England sorry.

However it’s to get an idea on what people would do. Feel free to jog on to those that don’t agree with the post, no need to comment further. If you don’t want to participate please feel free to ignore.

OP posts:
loosinggame · 18/12/2021 10:48

That's not right. If it's omicron the whole household has to isolate even children and the vaccination. If it isn't omicron then if you are doubled jabbed or under 18 you don't need to isolate

Tillsforthrills · 18/12/2021 10:49

@loosinggame

It is right for England since Tuesday.

Sorry for the confusion as to the rules in Scotland and Wales.

WouldIBeATwat · 18/12/2021 10:50

Since 30th Nov all contacts of confirmed Omicron cases must isolate.

Looneytune253 · 18/12/2021 10:51

I reckon every single person in the world would allow their family members to join them for lunch at xmas time. Even if they had Covid.

I reckon you’d be wrong.
Tillsforthrills · 18/12/2021 10:53

@WouldIBeATwat

That’s not the case for England though, the rules were updated on Tuesday 14th December for omicron.

OP posts:
WouldIBeATwat · 18/12/2021 10:54

It’s still on the govt site. (I’m not in England so had to look it up.)

OP is definitely correct. All positive cases are treated the same in England, and that is that contacts do not need to self isolate, but are advised to take a daily LFT. This changed recently.

In Scotland, they are advised to self isolate - technically not the law.

In answer to your question OP, if I was going to someone’s house, I would just ask them if they were happy for me to still attend.
