AIBU to ask where to get car insurance for 18 year old who passed test today?

I am with Esure, but they won't allow me to add DD to policy as my car is apparently too high powered. It is just a Skoda Yeti!

Does anyone know of any good insurance companies for Young drivers? When DD was learning to drive, we had Learner Driver Insurance through Marmalade. They offer Young Driver's insurance as well, but only if DD is not the main driver. As DD will probably be the main driver, I can't buy insurance from them.

I was just looking for alternatives.

Any advice appreciated.

It depends! Use a comparison website and plug all your details on.

Can you change your insurance policy if your current one won’t let you add her on?

I went on my DH’s policy when I passed my test and this was for a Land Rover, so a 4x4. It was considerably cheaper this way.

This was Aviva.

We used Tesco and Hastings both with the black box - can’t remember exactly which one we had when he was 17 and just passed - but it was one of those.

DS is with Drive Wise (I think!) with a black box which gives him monthly feedback. He can get rebates on his premium if he drives carefully which is an enormous incentive Xmas Grin

As for your Yeti, I drive a Freelander and we've yet to find a company that would insure him on it not that we looked that hard! Our situation is similar to yours WRT the roads etc but it's just not something we've been able to facilitate.

DD will be the main driver of my Yeti. If I were to give up my own insurance policy I would stand to lose 20+ years of No Claims bonus.

Admiral has insured DD to drive my Yeti thank goodness. Maybe they might insure your son to drive your Freelander.
