I keep hearing people talking about social credit, I hadn’t heard anything about it until a couple of weeks ago when in one week I have had 3 people telling me that this is what the government is trying to do. Any thoughts?

I think the chancellor said something about a digital BoE. In that you wouldn't be paid say a salary / wages but tokens which you could then use to purchase things but of course with caveats. So I imagine for example you could use your tokens to buy PPE but the only PPE provider with state approved PPE would turn out to be a Tory donor. I can imagine some people on benefits only being able to use their tokens to buy state mandated items etc. The thing is people largely love the tories / authoritarianism so I can see this being approved by the general public.

The Bank of England did a consultation on digital currency but I think hardly anyone saw it.

There's another one coming next year it seems

Out of Time on Netflix.

Hospedia · 16/12/2021 16:14

The government can't even organise a secret piss-up in Downing Street, it's giving rhem far too much credit to think that they could properly organise and administrate a scheme like this.

Sunsetsupernova · 16/12/2021 16:17

You sound like you’ve been speaking to my MIL. She also believes Prince Philip died years ago and they were carting around a wax work of him so we all believed he was still alive Hmm

Um...does she say what she thinks the point would be?! 😂
SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 16/12/2021 16:22

OP - its already here. Currently all this information is disparate. think Facebook, Google Maps Apple Health, Tesco club card. You name it and there's data about you, being used against you. Read Surveillance capitalism but Shoshanna Zuboff - Serving Harvard Professor - she isn't a conspiracy theorist.

MadeOfStarStuff · 16/12/2021 16:22

You have extraordinary confidence in the governments ability to force this on us considering they can’t even convince people to wear a face mask for 5 minutes to potentially save lives in the middle of a pandemic.

Engage at least one single brain cell and stop being ridiculous.

Cakeandcardio · 16/12/2021 16:28

I'm in no way a covid conspiracy theorist and find this far fetched and hard to believe but this is actually on our own govt website and it does worry me www.gov.uk/government/news/new-pilot-to-help-people-eat-better-and-exercise-more

Well they certainly dictating what jobs you can do like care home staff who need to be double vaccinated and is due to be enfoced from April 2022.
Hospedia · 16/12/2021 16:32

A voluntary scheme to aid/encourage weightless that is targeted at identified groups and only accessible by referral from a health professional is not the same thing as slapping a state-issued wristband on everyone and banning them from buying certain products or accessing certain services based on surveillance data.

Hospedia · 16/12/2021 16:37

There has always been a requirement for healthcare workers to have specific vaccines as they are working with vulnerable patients, are at risk of exposure to variois things, and services need to be maintained. The requirement to get a covid vaccine is simply an extension of this.

Cakeandcardio · 16/12/2021 16:44

Hospedia - I completely appreciate your point. I do try not to engage with the social credit idea that some people around me constantly push. I agree could be just as likely to be for people waiting for gastric band surgery etc etc.

Two pieces on it, one from the government. I don't like some of what's being suggested and I think that we should all become informed on any proposals.

megletthesecond · 16/12/2021 16:56

Pity, I'd almost win the healthy eating and lifestyle part. Pah.

Johnson can’t even get his own backbenchers okay masks in enclosed spaces during a pandemic. Those motherfuckers won’t be voting for social credit any time soon.

Depends how gullible you are. But if you like spreading false information carry on.
syccdd · 16/12/2021 18:40

Yes I expect this will happen, and that plebs will do it willingly. Confused

luverlybubberly · 16/12/2021 18:45

Have you watched Black Mirror? There's an episode about a world where social credit is the system

Kaylasmum49 · 16/12/2021 19:48

I’m not gullible, I have an open mind and I came to ask people’s thoughts on it. I am not spreading false information at all!

Is that the one with the treadmills? I think I got bored and didn't watch it all.

I haven't seen the newer seasons, only the first two I think.

Spectre8 · 17/12/2021 00:43

I find itfunny only 2 yrs ago people on here were like no there will no vaccine passport to get into place its all a conspiracy, it won't happen here.

Low and behold here we are and we have them, might not quite be as strict as some european countries were you cant go anywhere without a vaccine passport but its starting to happen though.

Nudging us all that way.
