I'm sure there are always threads about this at this time of year!! But am I unreasonable in thinking music channels (and radio stations too) should ban this song? Especially the music channels and especially the Tom Jones and Cerys version.

Just watched the video properly for the first time (don't judge) and it's really not very pleasant.

Underlying connotations to do with consent and persuasion, spiking her drink and then all of a sudden she's in a cheap Ann summers outfit prancing around because he has convinced her to stay for a shag.

Just so outdated and offensive.

I really can't care much about this. It's a song. The video is fake. There are so many 'offensive' music videos that you couldn't possibly ban them all. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

I love that song and get so pissed off that it has been misunderstood.

It was written in an era when women were expected to say no even when they wanted to say yes. That was a cultural norm that no longer exists, thank goodness, but it was very common then. It's intended to suggest she really does want to stay but her parents will disapprove. It's about them both lusting after each other, not him forcing her. I love the Ella and Louis version.

Having said I love the original, I also adore the rewrite in that film. Impossible not to fall for him when he sings that. It's adorable.

Now I've just seen the Buble and "Adele dazeem" version and I enjoyed that!!

Maybe it's just Tom Jones that creeps me out??
