One bastard coca cola

Dontdrinkcola · 16/12/2021 03:25

One bastard coca cola I had tonight and I'm still pissing awake.
Our Xmas shindig was cancelled of course, and we substituted by having an evening zoom gathering with drinks and nibbles.
I brought a can of coca cola as I thought why not and I don't drink alcohol.
Still pigging awake and can't get to sleep.
Awake in 2 hours to start an early shift.
Livid at myself.

I have to drink lemonade or caffeine free on the evening, half a can and it keeps me awake. You have my sympathy, hope you get through work ok.

Tabbacus · 16/12/2021 07:00

I am sensitive to caffeine and would be the same, hope you managed to get some sleep.

GoddamnCars · 16/12/2021 07:03

Yeah that would have done the same to me, and I don't have caffeine sensitivity. I have strong coffee in the morning, although have started to avoid it later in the day. I have had a cut off point for caffeine for a few years (about 4pm) but it's been getting earlier recently. I don't tend to have it with alcohol if out for the evening or the combination of booze and caffeine will give me an anxious, sleepless night. I've made the same mistake as you a few times OP through lack of choice in soft drinks, tend to think 'what's the harm' then regret it at 2am!

avocadotofu · 16/12/2021 07:12

I totally feel your pain. I'm super sensitive to caffeine too. I hope you managed to get some sleep eventually.

Longingforatikihut · 16/12/2021 07:22

Joining the ranks of the caffeine sensitive.

MrsSkylerWhite · 16/12/2021 07:25

Generally feel fine next day after drinking alcohol but cola gives me a hangover.

Shallwegoforawalk · 16/12/2021 07:32

@arcof

Coke doesn't contain anywheee near enough caffeine to keep you awake

It does if you have a caffeine sensitivity. As Op has discovered

poorbuthappy · 16/12/2021 07:33

12pm is my absolute cut off. 10am tends to be my last cup when working.

Shallwegoforawalk · 16/12/2021 07:35

@danwoolton what's with the hunni darling sarcasm? Hmm

Mollymalone123 · 16/12/2021 07:37

I can’t drink it either- get jittery and stomach pains from coke! Nothing else quite tastes the same either!

picklemewalnuts · 16/12/2021 07:38

I had a very strong coffee 5pm yesterday. Slept fine from 10 til midnight, then dozing/awake/reading all flippin' night. Won't make that mistake again!

Notimetolive · 16/12/2021 07:39

Yep. I’m caffeine sensitive too.
Great when I need a boost, but then pay for it by not sleeping, which means I have a coffee next day to give me a boost, which means I don’t sleep, which means………and so on in a big loop.
Using this Christmas break from work to break the cycle and go through the pain of caffeine withdrawal.

Cheerbear24 · 16/12/2021 07:39

Oh dear this is me, I can’t drink any caffeine after 12pm or I’m awake in the early hours.

Erm… it does. If I drink coke or Pepsi in the evening it keeps me up. Caffeine free does not.

Perhaps some of us are more sensitive to caffeine’s effects than others. More so when we don’t drink it often 🤷🏻‍♀️

Dontdrinkcola · 16/12/2021 08:01

Fell asleep at 4.53am and alarm went off at 6.15am.. So painful. Would've probably felt better not sleeping at all.

Is there any chance of a sick day Op?

@TerrifiedandWorried

The only upside of caffeine sensitivity, is that if needed I can have a coffee and basically develop super powers. I pay for it for days, but sometimes it's worth it!
Same 😩
WildStallyn · 17/12/2021 11:49

I get this. It only takes one coke or instant coffee after lunchtime and I'm awake all night. It's not fair!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 17/12/2021 11:50

Oh god I really want a Coca Cola now!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 17/12/2021 11:51

But sorry it had this affect on you OP!
