AIBU to keep DC off school tomorrow in case they catch covid before xmas

We will be spending Christmas this year with my parents who are both vulnerable (but had their boosters). We haven't spent Christmas with them for three years, and we're all looking forward to being with them and my brother's family so much.

After the news briefing this evening, I cancelled all our plans to see people between now and Christmas, the only risk is my DC catching COVID in school tomorrow or Friday. She is in Yr 2 but very behind. WWYD? AIBU to keep her at home to ensure we can celebrate Christmas with family.

If my dp were still alive there is no way I would have put my Xmas at risk.
Your dd is very behind? This is a much bigger issue than missing one day of Xmas word searches and Christmas craft.
Keep her off and try and work out why she is behind and what support she needs.

Mine is off for the last 5 days of primary school. Two are positive in her class, 5 are in the class above and two years are learning at home. 10/30 were in today. Not worth risking Christmas with family who have booked accommodation to see us.

If she tests positive today you have to isolate over Christmas so you’re too late to dodge that already as such she may as well go to school
She must be off next week as it is?

I do not blame you. My daughter has covid. Found out today on a LF. I hate Christmas as it is so this is just the cherry on a really shit cake

I’m a PT teacher and I’m keeping my two off for similar reasons. Not worth the risk for the sake of a toy day and a film in school.

Mine have been off since Tuesday as I refuse to isolate over Xmas. There are 6 positive cases in her class and the numbers seem to be going up with more lft daily being reported as positive. The class has been put into a bubble - so can’t mix with the rest of the school. I can’t get my booster booked until January. A year ago this class would have been shut- I know we have come on with vaccinations etc but as we have a new strain as i can’t readily get the booster it didn’t sit well with me.

I was planning on doing the same… but DH has probably caught Covid already from a night out with his friends. We are waiting on PCR results. I’ve started with a headache and general yuck feeling today so also need to get myself booked in for a test.
Joy. At least DH will be out of isolation in time to collect our food order on Xmas eve.

Nah. Life is short. Get her to catch up at school though!

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 15/12/2021 22:41

I wouldn't hesitate to keep them off, they're only going to miss a film or something!

INeedNewShoes · 15/12/2021 22:52

I'm trying to make this decision too. DD has already missed 4 days this term due to temperatures/waiting for PCR results though and I'm worried that 6 days' absence is a hell of a lot for one term.
