To ask someone to tear my case study to shreds?

I'm not sure if this is an appropriate request. However, let's give it a try.

I'm in my final year at uni and am in the middle of writing up a case study.

I'm looking into how Obama and trumps policies on immigration have impacted on migration patterns and the lives of Hispanic migrants within the US.

I am 'balls deep' for lack of a better term, and am really struggling. I feel like my brain is like treacle and am struggling to connect a sentence. I need a pair of fresh eyes to look at it as I'm too far into it to judge it objectively if that makes sense.

I would send it to family/friends but there's none that would be able to critique it accurately.

Therefore I'm reaching out to anyone on mumsnet that would be willing to take a look, I'd need an email as it includes graphs and tables which seem to be mucking up on my phone and going all over the place.

My two main issues are -

  1. Is my argument clear? From start to finish?
  1. Does the structure require a lot of work?

Also it's not finished, a conclusion still needs to be added as well as several references.

If not, oh well, worth a shot!

Thanks in advance!

I’m happy to, PM if you still need someone. No good on your subject matter, but postgrad qualified so I can help with structure etc Smile

@wheredidlewiscapaldioriginate, I"m a university lecturer. Does your uni have a personal tutor system? This is the sort of thing your PT ought to be able to help you with, and a staff member from your own institution will be familiar with how much feedback and help it is appropriate to give you for an assessment (presumably a summative assessment that counts towards a module mark?).

While it is generally considered OK to ask someone to proofread an assessment for spelling, grammar, typos and general sense, asking others to comment on your ideas and how you express them is a bit of a grey area. A key part of the point of an assessment like this is to encourage you to develop a sense of whether you are expressing arguments, evidence and conclusions cogently. If you're at the "can't see the wood for the trees" stage of a piece of coursework, it can be helpful to put it to one side for a while (submission deadlines permitting) and then come back to it with fresh eyes. Another technique to try is to read your work aloud and listen to how it sounds - you could also try recording sections on a phone voice recorder and playing them back to yourself.

Did you get enough feedback @wheredidlewiscapaldioriginate ?

Not my area at all but I have a post grad degree so more than capable of reading an essay and seeing if it makes sense.
I use to proofread my sister’s essays all the time, I can spot a typo from a mile away!

I am a Master's student and very happy to read and answer your questions. You can message me for my email address. My Master's isn't in your area but I understand. When I saw so many reies I thought I was too late. Quite mystified by the aggro.
