30 weeks but measuring 32

Hi all I’m 30+2 but measuring 32 does this mean I could actually be 32 weeks 😫 sorry to sound so dumb, just trying to figure out if she could be earlier than expected 🙂

They can always come earlier than expected

Hadalifeonce · 15/12/2021 16:35

Babies don't know their due date, they come when they are ready.

Thinking2041 · 15/12/2021 16:37

What do you mean by ‘measuring 32 weeks’

  • did you have a scan? Or did they measure your bump?
JoeyJoeyson · 15/12/2021 16:41

It’s just a guide. I always measured bigger than my dates because I had a massive bump. My heaviest baby was 8lb and I went 2 weeks over all three times.

It’s mainly used to spot any massive changes like growth suddenly stopping or increasing rapidly. It doesn’t mean you’re further along.

That being said the baby will come when it’s ready whether that be 2 weeks ‘early’ or ‘late’

I wouldn't worry.
With dd2 I was measuring 24 weeks at 32 weeks and she came a week early, pretty much ready and a good 7lb. It's a very rough measurement.

Giraffaelina · 15/12/2021 16:43

It doesn't mean you are 32 weeks. They established your due date at your 12 week scan and made that the base line. That's why now you are measuring either ahead or behind. It's not 100% accurate though, especially if it's a tummy measurement. I was measuring behind up till 34 weeks when it suddenly levelled out, and at some point I was also measuring ahead. Just means how big / small baby / belly and where do you slot in on the chart. Obviously there could also be medical reasons but I think the 2 week is within the acceptable limits to be ahead or behind. Hope that makes sense.

Sceptre86 · 15/12/2021 16:43

It means your measurements are the same as an average women who is 32 weeks pregnant that 30 weeks. It could mean the baby is bigger than average. Its actually a bit more complicated than that because there are other reasons why you could be measuring ahead for instance if different people are measuring you , depending on the way the baby is positioned at the time they take the measurements etc. It isn't an exact science and doesn't always mean you will have a larger than average baby. For instance I measured ahead with two of mine and they were bigger than average babies but they were both born at 40 weeks. I'd also suggest joining your birth month group on mumsnet so you can talk to other prospective mums due at the same time as they will be going through similar things to you. Dont be afraid to ask your midwife questions either. Best of luck op.

I had growth scans from 30w and consistently was told my baby was measuring 2-3 weeks ahead. I had him at 39 weeks and he was 8lbs 7oz so not the monster I was expecting!

BogRollBOGOF · 15/12/2021 16:46

I ended up measuring 45 weeks... baby turned up naturally in week 39. I looked like a weeble and outgrew nearly all of my maternity clothes through the 3rd trimester.

Had a couple of growth scans, just a larger than average baby (not huge although more than 2lb bigger than I was when born on due date) with a lot of fluid. At 38 weeks having had a scan a couple of days earlier, the MW shrugged "I suppose it's just your normal" as she plotted the measurement somewhere near the title of the chart Grin

Mummy2bee1989 · 15/12/2021 16:56

Yes had a scan yesterday to check her growth

OP posts:
Lasair · 15/12/2021 17:41

Yeah that’s normal. Why didn’t you ask your midwife? Maybe you have more fluid? It’s not an exact science they can be 10% over or under

AutumnLeaves21 · 15/12/2021 17:44

Your grow chart is personalised to you- weeks gestation doesn’t always correlate with cams measured. OP in future, you should ask these questions to your midwife who should explain to you and answer any questions you may have. Don’t feel silly asking Flowers

Alfixn · 15/12/2021 20:09

You will be still counted as 30 weeks pregnant, your due date is set at the 12 week scan and doesn't change. It just means your baby is the same size as an average 32 week baby. 2 weeks difference is within the normal range so should be nothing at all to worry about!
