To ask family and friends to take lft before visiting?

Hi not sure if IABU or not. I have a few close friends and family visiting on Friday for a pre Christmas glass of mulled wine and nibbles.

There are about 10 of us, 9 are double jabbed, some with booster some not. One of my guests is heavily pregnant and unvaccinated (through choice) and one is my MIL who is 87 (and triple vaccinated).

I have suggested we all take a lft before meeting as I thought it was a sensible suggestion to try and keep us all safe. However it seems some of my guests think I am over reacting and it is unnecessary?

Would you mind or is this OTT? I personally am not overly anxious I have had Covid and am vaccinated I was more concerned about MIL and pregnant guest

I would ask and have done for similar event, seems ridiculous not to right now

Envoitrevisage · 15/12/2021 13:26

You can ask but I wouldn’t insist. It’s not something that would bother me either way.

SusieBob · 15/12/2021 13:27

Absolutely would be fine with this. A lot of people are routinely taking tests before visiting anyway so you may find some are already planning to do so.

I would ask, yes. Guidance in Scotland is currently to do one whenever you're going to come in contact with people outwith your own household, so even for going to supermarket etc. I've had this discussion with others and to be honest my view would be if they weren't willing to do it knowing I had (in your case) an elderly relative there I wouldn't think much of them as friends going forward.

Shiningpath · 15/12/2021 13:31

Perfectly normal and reasonable nowadays. Anyone taking offence would be, to my mind, a bit of a dick.

I think it's just good manners at this point to do one when going to this kind of social event. It's not exactly a hardship, and if someone is graciously welcoming me into their home and hosting then it's not much of them to ask.

Notonthestairs · 15/12/2021 13:32

We've been doing this for weeks. I would expect guests to be mindful of the vulnerabilities of elderly and pregnant.

Totally routine here. It's the millennials who bossily put reminders on the family WhatsApp group. Us oldies are slightly more relaxed.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 15/12/2021 13:49

We do it.

But I’m running low on lfts and worried about the shortage now!

OMGisthisforreal · 15/12/2021 13:55

We all do it automatically before every visit as a courtesy, regardless.
Any reluctance would flag up a warning to me so it’s worth making the request now and to make sure everyone has a LFT to use.
