in leaving the hall light (a 20w low-energy bulb) on all night for safety reasons?

DH insists on leaving the landing light (also 20w low-energy) off overnight, because it shines under the door; and in fact he turns off hall or landing light if he finds them on during the day even though:

a) this is a mid-terraced house so quite gloomy indoors
b) these bulbs use an hour's worth of electricity warming up when switched back on after having been needlessly switched off

and (the clincher)

c) he turns on - and leaves on - the bathroom lights (3x50w halogen) even when the sun is streaming in (bathroom has E & S windows and is dazzling most daytimes )

I just whinged at him for turning the hall light off on his way to bed yet again, and he bumbled and mumbled about "light pollution" - WTF???

They are very cute, hunker! (But they appear to have a wire coming out of the back...???)

Oh, just read the spec, they're rechargeable? Brilliant!

Aha, that's the cunning bit.

They charge up (can be lit or not whilst charging). You unplug them and they still work. For ages.

Magical!

They are utterly fab - the light's great.

Except poor DS2 thought he had a yellow cup...in normal light. And when that went out and it was just the blue nightlight, it looked dark orange.

V puzzled he was. "No, lellow cup, Mummy...peeeeeeez?!" "Aw, pet, it is yellow!" "No, Mummy, owinj cup!"

So am I, Flame - unless I'm in bed. Then they can't get me.

DH trying to persuade me to go to see I Am Legend atm - he told me the idea of it and I think I might not because I won't be able to put my feet on the bedroom carpet in the dark for a year if I do [wuss] Things might reach out from under the bed...

I'm going to reply to your email too, Flame [ridiculously shit at replying to emails]

NappiesGaloriouslyFestive · 19/12/2007 23:43

aha

yes, dp like this, turns all light off.

i have discovered... plug in night lights with motion sensor. the hall/landing floor is lit enough to avoid furniture/doorways whenever someone moves there. from homebase.

also have spokas as stocking fillers for the dc

and theres a permanently On plug in nightlight by the loo nearest the kids bedroom.

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 19/12/2007 23:44

Did I send you an email?

NappiesGaloriouslyFestive · 19/12/2007 23:45

something like this tho not that exact model.

FairyTaleOfNewYork · 19/12/2007 23:45

when i was a child, if i had to get out of bed i used to fling myself as far as possible from the bed on the way out, and leap back into bed so things couldnt get me from under the bed. mind u looking back, all it would be would be dust bunnies.

i want to see I am Legend.

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 19/12/2007 23:45

I want spokas

We have plug in night light, but the bar from the gate covers it so it does sod all

We DO have these cool little ducks and dolphins that light and change colour when you rub the sensor - they are meant for the bath but they are fab little short term nightlights
