How to keep descale new kettle without ruining it

Hi, I bought a glass kettle a year ago and, living in London, the hard water makes it fur up quite quickly.

I used one of those descaler sachets from Wilkos but they ended up burning the bottom of the kettle.

I now have a new glass kettle and want to keep it fur free without burning it.

AIBU to ask for your tried and tested suggestions?

@wolfstarling

A tablespoon of citric acid, half fill, boil and leave for 10mins and is good as new.
I didn't know this. Our new kettle is starting to fur up already. This sounds like a great tip. Thank you.

I can concur the citric acid instructions. I saw it on TikTok and couldn't believe how easy and effective it was.

I use those descaler sponge things (from Amazon) and then descale with whine vinegar.
I put about 1/3 of the bottle mixed with water. Boil. Sit in kettle for 10 mins. Empty. Refill. Boil. Empty. Boil again and empty if still smelling of vinegar.
I do think every 4-6 weeks I reckon.

I have a glass kettle and I boil a couple of lemon slices in it and allow to cool every few weeks. Works like a charm.

I’ve found citric acid in my local pharmacies.

Thank you for tips everyone! Similar problems here; only had the kettle two months!
