@isthismylifenow I have one lovely proper wool jumper and it rarely gets worn because I don’t want to put the washing machine on just for that on a different setting from everything else that gets bunged in all together!
I avoid wooden handled kitchen items because of the dishwasher issue - except wooden spoons, which I put through the dishwasher, knowing they won’t last and will need replacing (they still last years though so glad I don’t bother to hand wash these). Again non stick pans go in there, knowing they will slowly get ruined.
Honestly so much cooking from scratch and eating happens in our house we struggle to keep up with loading and unloading the dishwasher in time before it has to be re-loaded, and it often goes on 2x daily - neither myself nor DP want to be washing up on top of that!
As for knife safety in the dishwasher, what do you mean? We put ours on the top rack where they lie there neatly in their slots and don’t escape!
Thanks
I do get that it is up to each household how things are done. For eg, I have a few wool jumpers which I wear quite a lot. (I don't wash them every time I wear them, which is a blessing with wool as they don't seem to need a wash after every wear). And I do like a drink in a posh glass from time to time, I don't drink much, so when I do I like it to be just a little bit fancy
. To me, handwashing some items isn't the deciding factor in buying the items, I just want to keep them looking as good as possible, for as long as possible...but I still want to use them regularly.
If you don't have the time for it, then its fully understandable that you would rather go for something that machine washable/dishwasher friendly.
Re the knives in the dishwasher. Well we had a very nasty accident when I did put one in to wash, a member of the household pulled out the drawer too fast and the knife did a whirl in the air, ended up planted inside said person's foot. Two surgeries and 12 weeks of misery ensued, so I hand wash every knife, for this reason and as the ones I have now (Global) say to only hand wash. And they cost a fortune (but they are amazing) so again, I don't want to risk them wearing out before their time.
Just going back to the LC cast iron. I don't use these for frying eggs as I find a non stick tefal pan better. But hand washing the LC really isn't a time consuming thing. If I have made curry etc, I just soak the pot while I am doing other things, not even 10 mins usually, and it really just needs a quick sponge and it comes out perfectly clean. The enamel coating makes it easy to clean, so if something caught while cooking (rare) it doesn't take much effort to clean. I have to make them last as my dc have all claimed them, they reckon they need to go in my will
