Considering a house with no parking - more of a wwyd!

I'm in a position where, after the break up of my relationship, I have enough money to buy a gorgeous house in South Wales - the house is ideal... lovely big garden for my dogs, close to the beach, 3 good size bedrooms, great kitchen etc etc... the only downside is that there is no off street parking, and no scope to create a parking area either.

My girlfriend owns a house where we live (about 3hrs from South Wales) and she believes that the no parking would be a huge problem as I plan to use the house occasionally (as I work in London it'll be more of a weekend away type place, not somewhere I live as that's where I work) and then use it as a holiday let at other times...

Has anyone bought a house with no parking? I've never lived in a house without a drive way, not even as a student, so I don't feel like I have a fair opinion!

Thanks :)

What's wrong with the road

askingforafriend80 · 13/12/2021 22:11

Where can you park?
Have you visited at different times of day to see if it’d be a problem

Darbs76 · 13/12/2021 22:12

Been there and done it, and I’d never choose to do it again if I didn’t have a choice. It’s a real pain

Cosmois · 13/12/2021 22:13

We have no parking here and it is a big driver in why we are moving! Under offer on our house and we won't even look at a house with no parking this time round.

Depends on the street parking situation. But I would never rent a holiday let without parking because we ride motorcycles

DingADingADingDong · 13/12/2021 22:16

I live near a beach and there's no way I'd consider buying a house without parking if I had the choice
Never underestimate how busy it will get

Sparklingbrook · 13/12/2021 22:18

I wouldn't buy a house with no parking unless it really was the only option. I would hate any visitors having problems parking and trying to find a spot to park every time you get home.. As a PP said I would also not consider a holiday let without parking.

TakeMe2Insanity · 13/12/2021 22:21

I guess you need to think about what the street would be like in peak summer. I imagine people who go to the beach would park anywhere…

Fomofo · 13/12/2021 22:22

I would happily rent a holiday let without parking

GorgonzolaSouffle · 13/12/2021 22:23

Don’t do it

Fomofo · 13/12/2021 22:24

Do it

Blossomtoes · 13/12/2021 23:08

We have no off street parking - cars didn’t exist in 1610 when this house was built. It’s absolutely fine.

justjuggling · 13/12/2021 23:11

Don’t do it! I’m so fed up with having to park miles away from my house and am looking to move next year. Priority will be off street parking.

Jazzyjeffery · 13/12/2021 23:13

I wouldn't buy a house without parking, I also wouldn't rent a holiday let without it either. Go out for the day and maybe not get parked when we get home? No thanks!

CruCru · 13/12/2021 23:13

Realistically most people who live in the centre of cities won’t have driveways. However I do know of a guy who, once he got a parking spot, point blank refused to move or go anywhere because he might not get another one. It got much easier once they brought in residents’ parking.

Will there be residents’ parking or will it be a free for all?

PrincessPaws · 13/12/2021 23:13

I'd never book a holiday let without parking

DdraigGoch · 13/12/2021 23:14

I bought a house with no parking.

Solved the problem by selling the car and buying a bicycle.

RogersVideo · 13/12/2021 23:14

Totally depends on how competitive parking is on the road. If it's competitive it'll be a pain. If it isn't, then you'll hardly notice that you don't have a driveway.

Sparklingbrook · 13/12/2021 23:15

What about visitors though?
GreenLunchBox · 13/12/2021 23:16

Do you mean there's double yellows on the road? Don't most people live in houses that don't have a designated parking spot?

Justajot · 13/12/2021 23:18

I'd book a holiday let if there was parking on the road outside, but not if there was nowhere to park close by.

I wouldn't buy a house without off street parking again. We had that in our last house and it was really irritating. We've now got parking for about 6 cars and can park 2 side-by-side so that we don't have to move one to get the other out. It was one of the reasons we chose this house.

Frazzled2207 · 13/12/2021 23:19

Totally depends on how easy it is to park on the road
I lived in a terrace for years And it was fine.
A significant proportion of the UK don’t have off street parking and cope fine.

Wombat69 · 13/12/2021 23:20

We did for a while, total pita...

Never again.

EmmaC78 · 13/12/2021 23:22

I recently moved house and the lack.of parking at my old house was one of the main reasons for the move. I wouldn't buy anywhere with no driveway again unless the street was very quiet.
