Quirkle is the very dull

I've read so many rave reviews of this game but we played it twice last week and found it unbelievably dull - could somebody please explain where the fun comes into it before I list it on Facebook marketplace.

YABU. I love it.

RaoulDufysCat · 13/12/2021 12:37

Having said that, if you don't like it, get rid! I am sure someone else will love it.

TinyTroubleMaker · 13/12/2021 12:38

I love it, each to their own Grin

SoupDragon · 13/12/2021 12:44

We love it. Relatively quick and with competitive tactics at play as you try to avoid giving away a Quirkle or try to save your files so you can get one.

Each to their own though. There are plenty of recommended games that I find dull.

Quirkle, or Merkel?

The same can be said about both :D

haba · 13/12/2021 14:18

I love it!
We're very competitive in our house, DD goes to the extent of working out how many pieces of each type/colour are left, but I just play any old how. I still love it (and I win fairly often).

katewitch · 13/12/2021 14:19

What outrageous slander, OP! Shock Grin

AliveAndSleeping · 13/12/2021 14:23

I love it. we got it for DD when she was 4 and I'm afraid she shares your opinion. She does love making patterns with the blocks so it's all good.Grin

(And I love Merkel. I'd happily exchange our quirkle set in return of having her as prime minister. Xmas Sad)

You may not have been playing very strategically. It's a cutthroat game of devious treachery when played between skilled players. Balancing whether to play the pieces you have that don't quite make a qwirkle with the risk that this might mean thar someone else qwirkles while you wait - and if you wait, will you get the final piece you need for a qwirkle or will someone play a move that makes the relevant line unqwirklable?

When I play against my MIL it's very vanilla though.

Jux · 13/12/2021 14:34

It's a precursor to standard card games, you learn tactics. In strategic games, you try to consider what your opponents are collecting by their discards, and this starts you on that road.

llambingtime · 13/12/2021 19:33

Haha I suspected as much - we are just highly unskilled. The question is can I bare another game to see if I can muster some strategic play? I want to like this game so much, I love the fact the pieces are all wooden.
