To think the baby/ children market has a lot to answer for in terms of plastic

I’m a recent FTM and everything is made of plastic with very few affordable alternatives - all the must have toys, weaning equipment, I was even looking at a tuff tray earlier to buy LO for Christmas and trying to think how I could make my own non-plastic version (metal tray on legs?). It’s like the whole industry is just plastic.

This is all virtue signalling nonsense, aren’t we lucky that we have a choice whether to buy this stuff or not?
What about all the people whose only choice is either make this stuff or starve?
It’s never as easy as just, “oh I’ll get Alfie a few second hand wooden toys for the sake of the environment!”
Why are you all pretending that it is?

What do you suggest?

@Mybalconyiscracking What do you suggest then? The majority of my daughters toys are second hand because we can't afford to buy her new. If we bought her new toys, we wouldn't be able to afford to eat. You do what's best for you!

I think it's more to do with single-use plastic, especially toiletries. We use solid shampoo and body wash bars for our DC. We have also recently switched to child-friendly toothpaste tablets and they are fab!

To me this should be a question of minimising unnecessary stuff.
Hopefully the era of disposable nappies and single use wipes is over now but you only have to read the threads on what to buy for a new baby or what is Santa Claus bringing your little DC to realise that most of us are really not thinking about the impact of our behaviour on the planet that we are leaving our children. DC don't really need many things, look back 30 or 40 years ( not 100 years ago) and think about what might have been considered necessary then.
