What does 'having it all' mean to you?

I'm not on about a big house, car or job. I'm on about small stuff, habbits, stuff like that.
Mine is gardening with hanging baskets and window boxes full of flowers.
Gift wrapping presents in beautiful ways with beautiful paper.
and getting up and dressed even if you're staying in all day, see also nail varnish. I NEVER paint my nails or get dressed

What small things do you want that would prove you have it all?

Having a really happy relationship with my DH and kids. Me & Dh have always got on well but kids added to the equation can tip the balance. But the last 2 years we seem to have hit the sweet spot. The kids get on really well with each other and us and we really enjoy thier company and vice versa. I feel a great sense of contentment with my lot right now Grin

I do have it all. I enjoy my life immensely 98.5% of the time, I have a lot of fun and quite literally no worries.

Basically, I think it all ties around the going through life just having an awful lot of fun.

Yourforever · 12/12/2021 16:47

If I feel happy then for me I've got it all.

CounsellorTroi · 12/12/2021 16:49

I have all I need, which also seems to be what I want.

Ponoka7 · 12/12/2021 16:51

I've got enough to live on, a bf who is kind and thoughtful and a good relationship with my adult children (who are in jobs that they enjoy) and GC. What will top it off is when I get my house renovated next year.

SandysMam · 12/12/2021 16:52

A good balance between work and home life, and a balance between stuff you have to do and stuff you want to do. Not quite there with that last one yet, not enough hours in the day but working on it!!

Luxembourgmama · 12/12/2021 16:53

A really really happy marriage. Kids that are happy and well adjusted a secure job, knowing that I can my mortgage and buy groceries. Decent friends.

SnekkinOnDown · 12/12/2021 17:01

I'm a really lucky person. I'm happy despite some horrendous life experiences and health problems. I think of I summed it it up I'd say it's inner peace after years of counselling. So despite being long term Disabled, survivor of childhood sexual abuse and then domestic violence, I find real joy in the occasional off grid camping trip. I love growing flowers in my little garden and feeling the sun on my face while I'm lying in my hammock. The sound of rain on my bedroom roof in the winter. The sound of my nieces and nephews and grand baby laughing is like magic. It makes me feel a lovely warm high that I never got when I was a drug addict. And my love for my husband and our relationship is deep and complex and absolutely perfect even in its flaws. 20 years on and he still gives me Fanny gallops and makes me feel safe and absolutely adored.

To sum up for the TL;DR

The changing seasons.
My family
Freedom to travel
Love.

I wouldn’t class getting up and dressed as having it all, surely that’s just a normal thing to do

HunterGatherer · 12/12/2021 17:14

Feeling loved.
Food in the fridge.
Access to great music.
Enough money to feed the birds and see if any rare ones show up.
That's me sorted really. Grin

Self acceptance, and choosing my people carefully, so that I'm accepted as I am by all those I'm close to.

That's it, really, other than basic human needs being met. Physical stuff comes and goes. A life of acceptance is like being in a permanent cuddle.

My DS and DiL are buying a house with me as they can't get on the housing ladder, I'll be living in an annexe. I really feel like I've won the lottery which is what they said too. It's mostly my equity so none of us will have to work full time any more as the mortgage will be so small so we will all have time for our hobbies.
I've missed him ever since he left home after he went to uni and I really like my DiL too, she is a good friend so I can't wait.
My great love is the garden, I love a beautiful garden, with neat edges and lovely plants especially roses.
Our cats, they have two and I have two so maybe we'll get some more animals as well. We are all animal lovers.
The countryside where we have all moved, rural life is what we've dreamed of for years.

A roaring fire, my dogs snuggled up on the sofa with me, food in the cupboard and a glass of red = Winning at life

thepeopleversuswork · 12/12/2021 17:45

Healthy and happy child
Good relationship with a kind man
Friends who have my back
A decent income and a job which is interesting if sometimes stressful

That’ll do me to be honest. None of it is perfect: my kid sometimes annoys me and my boyfriend watches more football than I would like and sometimes I work too hard. And I am not a millionaire and haven’t written a best-selling novel.

But I have been around long enough and made and regretted enough bad choices to know that when something is ticking along nicely for you half the battle is learning not to take it for granted and enjoying the little things.

time2tork · 12/12/2021 17:46

My family being healthy!
Wealth means nothing.

Imissmoominmama · 12/12/2021 17:49

The freedom (and finances) to do the things I want to do. Hiking; camping;dogs etc.

Kids who are happy and resilient.

Good health.

A great relationship with DH and my wider family.

Good friends.

StoneofDestiny · 12/12/2021 17:54

Happy relationship, happy children, no worries, good health and secure prospects.

lobsteroll · 12/12/2021 18:20

A happy healthy family that feels safe.

AstroBunny · 12/12/2021 18:44

A wonderfully gorgeous, loving and very adoring DH by my side on the sofa, playing chess, my lovely dogs by the open fire, a good glass of red on the go, some beautiful classical music playing. Utter bliss.

We have money in the bank, good, secure and interesting careers, lovely family and great friends. We’ve achieved our dream of country living. I feel so content when I’m with DH, relaxing in our cottage. I honestly feel like I’ve won the lottery of life 😊 it took til I was mid 40s to get here but it was worth the wait.
