AIBU to want Matt Hancock to crawl back and get back under his stone?

I see Matt Hancock has crawled out from under his stone and is relaunching himself as the saviour of worthy causes.

Am I the only person to be shocked by this? He had the most important job in the country at the time, had a lot of us drawn in believing he had our best interests at heart, only to find out he was a breaking his own rules and doesn't have a shred of integrity.

For me, this is worse than the party scandal at the moment. Matt Hancock is not a man of integrity and I don't want him involved in anything to do with running the country.

Are the Tories so unbelievably arrogant that they think normal people are totally thick and won't remember what he did 6 months ago?

Too soon, Mr Hancock. Too soon.

In fact, never is too soon.

Wokahontas · 09/12/2021 10:19

It's just unbelievable.

It's like as if someone has got round a table with Matt and brainstormed how he can redeem himself, or make him look like a good guy and has been given a portfolio of worthy causes to work on.

No Matt, you were in charge of the NHS. You told us to socially distance from each other whist over a hundred thousand of us died alone and all the time you were cheating on your wife and totally ignoring your own rules.

You asked us to entrust our lives in you and you lied to us all whilst being above your own rules.

NO ONE WILL EVER TRUST YOU AGAIN. NO ONE.

The problem though is that his universal screening for dyslexia in Primary Schools is very much needed. Trying to get a diagnosis is really tough at Primary School and often children are left and the longer it goes on the more they have to catch up

I agree about him as a person but it is something that does need to be brought to the fore

Wokahontas · 09/12/2021 10:25

Why is he the only person available to do it?

Then someone else should do it. Having Matt Hancock at the fore is more likely to damage the cause.

the80sweregreat · 09/12/2021 10:26

Sad face , please forgive me Matt was on look East last week
I threw my socks at him , but it missed the tv by a mile !

Quartz2208 · 09/12/2021 10:28

But that is it isnt it - it should have been something that should have been done awhile ago but no one has bothered with it.

I get it I don't like him either - but I have seen the effect that being dyslexic has and I have seen two very good friends fight to try and get their children the help they need.

It shouldn't be a publicity campaign - getting a bill through Parliament like this needs an MP to do so. He is still an MP (and will be until the next General Election) so he should be working as we are still paying him. Separating out that from giving him a public forum with which to try and redeem himself is important.

Putting a Bill in front of Parliament shouldnt be seen as a cause either

Not having the screening isn't really the issue though. There is no money to help those children even if they do get a diagnosis. Primary schools support children with suspected dyslexia as best they can and those with a diagnosis have the same support. It's not enough though.
BungleandGeorge · 09/12/2021 10:38

@kickupafuss disagree many primaries are totally unaware and the kids get no support whatsoever.

Rinoachicken · 09/12/2021 11:12

@kickupafuss but without an actual diagnosis the school can’t then apply for adjustments as needed (in exams and tests etc). My son is 8 and is severely dyslexic, he uses a laptop at school. I had to pay for the assessment and provided the laptop. School are massively supportive (even before the diagnosis) and now we have the diagnosis and detailed report that came with it they are applying for an EHCP to fund a 1:1 for him. That EHCP is much more likely to be approved with the professional report and diagnosis to back it up.

But not everyone can afford to pay the several hundreds required to get their child assessed. It is an educational need and can be severe enough to be considered a disability.

It is a disgrace that children are unable to access support (or even the explanation of why they are having difficulty) unless they are fortunate enough to have parents that can afford it.

Rinoachicken · 09/12/2021 11:14

Should also add, my son has benefited from the fact that his class teacher at the time was herself dyslexic, so recognised the signs, and his current teacher has a dyslexic child herself also, so has strategies up her sleeve to help.

This is purely luck though.

Quartz2208 · 09/12/2021 11:26

Yes exactly it is needed.

And it is a truth of our Parliamentary System that a Private Members Bill is the best way outside of a Government Minister to at least get something noticed. It is going to take an awfully long time though to get through so in the meantime some publicity isnt a bad thing.

I hate him but I agree with him here and as he is still an MP he might as well be doing something

GattioAnyone · 09/12/2021 11:28

A lot of self confidence there.
