Would you travel on the plane with a baby?

So my baby will be 4 months old by the time we are planning to travel on the plane.
Bought expensive tickets as it is Christmas time and can’t cancel them or postpone them. My worry is that my baby will catch covid either on the plane (lack of fresh air, small space) or airport (lots of people).
We were planning to visit family who we haven’t seen for 2 years due to covid.

We are planning on travelling at a similar time with DS, depending on restrictions in place at the time. However DS has already had Covid, he caught it at 2 weeks old while in hospital for bronchiolitis. Honestly, we wouldn't have known but for the hospital's policy to test again several days after admittance. DD also had it symptom free earlier this year, and she is only 2.

We spent booking anywhere anytime soon as knowing our luck it would all get cancelled anyway

Should say aren't not spent!

We went recently and there were several babies on the plane, all went well and felt very safe.

With a baby they fast track you through security so you aren't stood in a massive queue, masks on the plane and no one stood in the aisles etc.

They also won't have different groups sat next to each other on the plane if numbers allow (which they did for us).

They’ve put new and better filters in the airplanes so highly unlikely your baby will get Covid. If you are vaccinated and breastfeeding, studies have shown you are passing immunity to your baby via your breastmilk. I’d book a window seat for baby and settle them in a rear facing car seat for safety. Four months isn’t a bad age, just have a binky for them to suck on during take off and landing so their ears don’t hurt.

I did travel on a plane with my 4 month old a few months ago. I’m not particularly worried about her getting covid as it isn’t known to particularly affect babies.

Rhannion · 08/12/2021 22:55

Yes , I would but make sure the baby can suck on a bottle, dummy or you if you’re breastfeeding as it helps their ears with the pressure changes on take off and landing. Get a bulk head seat for the crib. You will be fine

Thank you for all the replies.
Me and DH both had covid and are both double vaccinated and I am breastfeeding so hopely DD has some antibodies from me.
We have window seat but I expect the plane to be full as it is Christmas time.
