Now this happened last Christmas before I discovered Mumsnet, but I've just remembered and wonder what you all think.I was heavily pregnant last Christmas lo is 10months now but I was a bit offended to recieve a book entitled 'Getting back in shape' I've got quite thick skin so wasn't actually offended but it just annoyed me that this is another example of people being obsessed with weight. I'm just a normal size person size 12 and fully accepted that you put weight on when you have a baby. AIBU/ungrateful....let me know what you think!

years ago I worked in WH Smiths, a young guy came in all excited his wife had had their first child the night before, he had bought her a pressie.

A work out book and a diet book, I had to say something!

Poor guy was nonplussed when I gently said was it really appropriate!

He replied that his wife had said that she couldnt wait to lose the weight, in the last few weeks she had said how huge she felt

Anyway, we chose her a baby book and a book for her to read while breastfeeding.

A few weeks later a lady came in and asked for me, it was the new Mum, who thanked me (he had told her eventually) and said if he had turned up with the original books she would have brained him

Thanks everyone, like Motherfunk says it was well meant just a bit thoughtless and insensitive. And I was very grateful for the bio oil mum bought me cos I'm too tight to buy that myself. I just thought it's not the end of the world if I put on a few pounds and if I eat sensibly/exercise it will come back off, I don't need a book how to tell me how to do it. Now I will be highly offended if I get the same sort of thing this year!

That's funny.

I shall now go out and look for an inappropriate present for someone i know just to put the cat among the pigeons.

OOh I would love it if someone bought me some Bio-oil!
But yes I would be rather offended if someone bought me a diet or exercise book!
What's wrong with my weeble like body

(Haven't had baby yet - any day now though!)

Buda - at your DH - what did you get him? "Think yourself big"
