British gas and meter readings!

British gas has asked for meter readings again, I'm on a fixed plan until March.

I moved house is April and since then they keep putting my monthly payment up, at my last house I was paying £60 a month now I'm paying £94! And they have said my readings seem high meaning they will put the price up again!

What can I do? I don't have the heating on through the night, any plug socket not in use is switched of I'm so confused!

You've read your electric meter wrong.

0015418 - first reading
0002139 - current reading

The way you've read the meter it looks like it's gone all the way around and started from zero again. That should automatically reject as a reading because it's out of threshold.

MuttsNutts · 08/12/2021 17:38

I can’t see it clearly but are you sure there isn’t a decimal point before the last two digits on the electricity meter?

Hellocatshome · 08/12/2021 17:38

You are reading your meter wrong. For your current reading to be right your meter would have had to go all the way around and start again! You either read it wrong last time or this time. You don't include anything after the decimal point.

dementedpixie · 08/12/2021 17:39

When you input your electricity reading in October you have put in the digits after the '.' but in your most recent reading you haven't. Are you supposed to put in those digits or not?

DraigFach · 08/12/2021 17:39

Cross post - you haven't read it wrong, that looks very wrong. You need to speak to someone, it's not possible to legitimately use that much electricity in 2 months without a hot tub and growing farm in your loft!

helpsm · 08/12/2021 17:40

@dementedpixie thats what the man put in they sent out because they said it was to high last time as well! I can't win

You either have incorrect meter readings somewhere along the line (very usual)
A faulty meter (unusual)
A cannabis farm (very unusual)
Best thing to do is take a meter reading at the same time everyday for the next 7 days and then call them into your supplier. They will soon be able to tell which it is.

dementedpixie · 08/12/2021 17:43

Did you first get a message about a high reading in October as I think that's where you've gone wrong. I imagine it should have been 1541.8 not 15418 (you have included the number after the point) 1541 going up to 2139 is more likely to be your usage

Auntieobem · 08/12/2021 17:46

Think your last reading was wrong. As pp said, uou font read the number after the decimal point.

Onehotmess · 08/12/2021 18:03

This reading is incorrect. Either you or they read it wrong (doesn’t really matter which). Send the pic of your meter to BG, and call them, they should be able to remove the rogue reading and rebill you.
