To have not found the fart funny?

I went bowling on Saturday with my mum, kids and sister. I was taking a sip of my drink when I suddenly got a whiff of the most horrendous smell - like rotting meat mixed with rotten eggs and shit. I balked and said something like “Jesus what is that smell?”. The kids smelt it and started gagging. My mum was the same. My sister was in stitches with tears streaming down her face. I asked what was funny, she said she thought the smell was coming from the group of blokes next to us. It then came on again even stronger. I was so close to being sick (on antibiotics so stomach dodgy anyway). My mum suggested it smelt like bad drains. I agreed and said I’d have to go and mention it to the staff. My sister watched me go. When I returned with a member of staff my sister was creased up laughing. The area smelt absolutely horrendous. Staff member said he’d go and mention it to the manager.

Long story short, turns out it was my sister farting. She’s on constipation medication hence the foulness of the stench. My family are now retelling the story over and over again and all find it hilarious that I actually spoke to staff. I’m struggling to see the funny side. I think it was fucking disgusting and they made me look stupid getting them staff involved. I’m now being told to “lighten up, it’s Christmas!”

AIBU to not see how this is so amusing to them??

@BiddyPop

It's not so much about the farting itself, but that your Sister, who knew it was coming from her, allowed you to go up to staff about the smell and enquire about where it was coming from - and found that hilarious.

If she had just said something like, "sorry, that's me, I'm on medication with a bit of a side effect", you would probably all have had a slightly different giggle at her expense or sympathised with her and hope she feels better soon, but without causing OP embarrassment at having made futile enquiries with others and drawing even more attention to it, and THAT action being laughed at instead.

Especially if they were all laughing at it afterwards anyway.

But also, maybe a lesson not to try to shake people by getting staff involved! I wonder if your sister was just a bit embarrassed and covered it up by making a joke out of it.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 08/12/2021 13:30

Sorry but I do find it amusing that you complained to the staff and it turned out to be your sister, I’m sure the staff would find it amusing too. I don’t generally find farting that funny, despite people saying it’s performance farting how can someone control the smell?

hamstersarse · 08/12/2021 13:30

YANBU

Your thread title is pretty funny though I agree with pp

Gives off an unintentional snigger

MysweetAudrina · 08/12/2021 13:33

I found it all a bit funny, especially you getting the staff involved over a fart.

MaxNormal · 08/12/2021 13:34

Well I laughed. Thank you OP I was having a shit (pardon the pun) day and that cheered me up.

YellowRollNeck · 08/12/2021 13:35

It’s my sister sharing the story so she can’t be that embarrassed

Im sure she didn't fart to piss you off...... Get over yourself.

7eleven · 08/12/2021 13:37

Do you think she was doing them on purpose, to wind you up. Makes a bit of a difference to me as to whether you are nbu

1forAll74 · 08/12/2021 13:37

I would think it was funny, and would think it was crazy for a person to then go and report a bad smell from a fart to the staff, !!

Cherrytart23 · 08/12/2021 13:38

Well I think its hilarious and would of thanked my lucky stars we weren't in a lift. You probably don't find it funny as your embrassed you complained to staff about the smell 🤣😂

AnotherSoddingWalk · 08/12/2021 13:39

I'm really sensitive to smells so I'm afraid I would not have found that very amusing. Sounds to me like your sister needs to grow up.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 08/12/2021 13:40

Heh heh heh!

What did you expect Staff to do?
AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 08/12/2021 13:40

This has really made me laugh so I voted YABU

me4real · 08/12/2021 13:41

Kind of YANBU. Even if she has health issues, a lot of people will wander off a bit to do a major fart so it isn't in front of others.

I can understand why you reported it, as it was making you so queasy while there.

BigYellowHat · 08/12/2021 13:45

Lighten up OP Hmm

OhMyCrump · 08/12/2021 13:47

@AnFiaRuaNua

So at that moment where you thought that the smell was so bad that it must be an issue with the drains, your sister should have put her hand up and said ''oh it was me, not the drains''.

That is embarrassing. It's not rocket science to understand why she tried to slip under the radar. She must have been mortified when you involved the staff!

I don't have a problem with flatulence btw. But it's human and being shamed for it is unkind. People react to really shameful situations by laughing to detach from the shame projected on to them.

She didn't try to slip under the radar, she thought it was hilarious. I also think this is weird behaviour from the sister.
sweeneytoddsrazor · 08/12/2021 13:47

She probably thought you would assume it was one of the blokes at the next table, especially as it wasn't a constant smell. Drains would be continuous not coming and going.

thepeopleversuswork · 08/12/2021 13:48

It’s a bit gross and your sister should have intervened before you went to speak to the staff but also a complete overreaction on your part tbh.

WTF did you expect the staff to do about it?

AbsolutelyFuckinFabulousDarlin · 08/12/2021 13:48

@AnFiaRuaNua

I don't know how she was supposed to react to being publicly shamed for farting though.
She wouldn't have been publicly shamed if she had just quietly said and not blamed another group. She allowed her sister to carry on & get the staff involved Blimey everyone does it, but she made it 'a thing'
Memyselfandfood · 08/12/2021 13:49

Disgusting. I’d be mortified if i were her! I’d not find it funny and keep retelling it!
Vile.
How awful for the people next too you too.

FrankGrillosWrist · 08/12/2021 13:49

Mention it to staff? Best laugh I've had all day 😆

Aaah you lot must be those people who claim never to have done a stinking fart, or any fart come to think of it.

Queenoftheashes · 08/12/2021 13:50

This is hysterical. I’m laughing at you going to find the staff.

That said if I’d been there I’d have been fuming. But as an anecdote the whole story is funny.

CloudyStorms · 08/12/2021 13:50

Don't know why you'd bother telling the staff tbh
