Do you always need strings to put baubles on the tree ?

Christmas tree novice here.

I recently visited my local garden centre and picked up some stunning baubles.

On inspection, they don't have any strings. So how do I attach them to my tree ? I have a real tree and each branch is quite thick, so it's difficult to shove them on without a string.

Last year I did my first tree and bought them on amazon. They all had strings on them. When I finished the tree, I must say, I didn't love that you could see the golf strings everywhere.

So I'm a bit torn and confused. Or am I missing something huge here ?

Thanks for your help!

Once you've tied the thread on it's on for life pretty much give or take the occasional snap.

Don't by plasticky hooks. Half of them will end up in the bin.

Put on cotton thread.

@Redcrayons

I use the foil ribbons. Make a big loop and tie a knot at the top. You only have to do it once, next year they’re to go.
I use cotton for the same reason.

I use black cotton - it's invisible once the baubles are on the tree, and I think you are wildly overestimating the effort and how long it takes to do it.

Then it's all done and you never have to worry about it again.

Are you sure they haven't provided little bits of silver and gold string in the packet ?

Cherrytart23 · 08/12/2021 14:17

Hooks are quick and easy used them for years now would never go back to string.

Yep! We have a bauble hospital every year for those that lost their cotton, and anything that hasn't coped well with the 11 month holiday in the loft!

We just use green sewing cotton, I didn't know you could get special hooks tbf.

Ours came with thread that I had to put on each one.

Btw do you buy new ones every year? We've had ours ages.

TurnUpTurnip · 08/12/2021 16:10

Just buy some 🤷‍♀️

This is only my second tree. First one was very small, so needed extra ones. I still have last year's ones. But they came with strings attached. So I just assumed that's how they always come.

I aim to keep them all, unless they break.

Cool! Our very first tree was a small 18" thing. We still have it and put it up in the dining room. It's so old now there's more tinsel than tree 😂
